What will it take for Americans to revolt?
* The cost of a Doctor's visit to be more than what they make per week (if they're insured, the uninsured already pay all this and more)?

* Americans can't get jobs because of mandatory psychological tests to "weed out potential loose cannons, thieves, and troublemakers" - guilty by default, forget being innocent?

Well, that stuff is already happening and nobody gives a frick because they've got jobs with insurance that does cover, so let's concentrate on what people DO give a frick about:

* How about the price of movies going up to $30 per flick per person?

* TV shows are 15 minutes long with 15 mins of commercials (hey, since 1980 when the advert increase started, we've gained 7.5 minutes of commercials per 30 minute time slot)

* The cost of one person for just one ticket to a baseball game is $50, let alone the cost of the hot dogs and beer... (or if it is already $50, try $100 just for a poor seat.)

* The FCC forces people to upgrade to copy-protection-enabled HDTV by 2006.

It used to be said that society is 3 meals short of a revolt.

I disagree. I say that society will remain content as long as it doesn't realize that it is being rudely exploited.

1. Well most of those we'd find something to do about...
The FCC forcing people to upgrade would really piss off a lotta people though.

4. The FCC already has it on the books.
I think they do. I know my town is a test center so they will force us to do it before 2006. I won't be watching TV, I guess.

6. Well, that's actually going to happen
So one out of 4 criteria isn't too bad.

The FCC won't force 'em to buy, but the FCC won't allow non-HDTV signals to be transmitted.

10. Nothin But Mind Pollution
Throw Your TV Out The Window!

I've been without TV for 2 years now.

No disadvantages that I can see.

12. In all seriousness, tell me:
What do you do?

I've spent half my lifetime collecting TV shows on VHS and DVD - okay, my collection revolves around usually brainy, cerebral, and/or controversial cool stuff which is not your typical mindrot.

How do you live without it? What do you do? I'm probably an addict, but I can't live without it - partly because I am introverted and can't relate to people. :-(

2. It will happen
When the resources start running out. When people have no jobs, no homes, no food....it will happen. But it probably won't be in my lifetime. My children and grandchild will have to suffer through it.

7. Add This: Many Middle Class Folks Becoming Working Poor
After struggling to climb the economic ladder, many people will hold a grudge for the rest of their lives.

I know I do. I believe others do as well.

11. Take ALL of their MATERIAL GOODS away!!!!!!!
If they can't live a shallow, meaningless existance, then they will have a reason to "revolt"!

16. A declaration of martial law...
right after a terrorist attact, just before the 2004 election.

That would do it for me, anyway.

17. Americans ARE revolting...
...if you listen to much of the rest of the world.

What will it take to wake this group up and get them into the streets? Well, THAT is a good question that scares hell outta me sometimes. I hang onto the hope that it will take something affecting them personally. (I say "hope" because I feel we've suffered enough already--not because I want anything more to happen to this nation to cause pain.)

We have body bags starting to pile up, a Whitehouse that lies daily and we have the beginnings of a police state. Our people are going hungry and many more will become homeless/bankrupt/unemployed in the next year. I'm hoping we have enough of a wake up call going already...

19. that reminds me
i read somewhere that real revolts happen not when things are at the worst, but when things start to get better and then stop-- i.e. people can see a better life within reach, but there are sudden crackdowns or setbacks that are clearly imposed from above. example: the l.a. riots happened when the rodney king verdict came out-- virtually everyone thought the verdict would be guilty (they saw a positive change within reach) and then when the not guilty verdict came, all hell broke loose...
