Lundberg says gas has gone up 20 cents in as many days; here it's 20 in 4
I posted last Thursday a "What's your gas prices?/ how fast they rising?" thread and here at least it's gone up another 20 cents just in those four days. If you wish, feel free to post your local prices/ rate of rise, but mainly I wanted to rant and rave along the lines of How long do you think they think they can get away with this? I know how high the price per bbl of oil has reached; I also know that that makes no immediate difference at the pump except through oil company profit-taking. Forgive rant; if you'd like to rant with your own, your local prices, or lecture me about peak oil, go to it.

2. Went up $.25 a gallon here -------------
----------- in only two days.

I'm numb. I cannot believe they're getting away with this bullshit.

Do you know what would have happened if prices had risen like this when Clinton was President?

Jesus. We really are a Nation of Sheep.

3. Gas went over $3/gal in my neighborhood this weekend
And in 1999 the Repugs said if we elected Gore that gas prices would go through the roof. Whatever.

4. I rushed to get it at $2.50/gal....
because it's supposed to go up another 40 cents this afternoon. Actually, I was already in town running errands - I wouldn't have made a special trip. But, with 3/4 of a tank it didn't click off at $12.02!! So, I stopped it there.

You know, when gas was $1.50 and less per gallon, my window was washed, my gas was pumped for me, and the oil was checked. I paid through the window and never got out of the car.

Now, at nearly $3 per gallon -which I believe it will be at very soon- *I* am doing all of the work and stations are closing down their pumps and just running a convenience store because they cannot afford the gas up front.

5. In Vernon, CT, it's gone from 2.29 to 2.51 in less than 10 days
I'm sure it will be even higher on my drive home tonight the way it's going.

I mean, ExxonMobil made $25.3 billion last year in net profits, an all time record for any corporation in history. This year, they are on pace to smash that record.

6. Probably a simple question
They are saying prices will level out after labor day because the demand will go down. So the price is based on demand. The price is then based on what people will pay for it not what it cost plus an reasonable profit margin. Why isn't this making people angry?

7. People are not angry because
Cons can't get angry because they elected Bushco and can't admit they are being lied to, and most libs feel guilty about buring gas and supporting Bushco in the first place.

8. Because that is how the theory of supply-and-demand works. n/t

9. No Bushco just wants more....
While oil is not in limitless supply, it's not like other products that must go up in cost when demand increases, like housing for instance.

For example, I don't think we start paying more for toothbrushes whenever a 3rd world country starts buying toothbrushes. We don't pay more for computers because more people demand computers.

Maybe I don't fully understand. I know oil will one day run out, but until it does, Bushco will sell it based on their ability to profit, not based on its supply.

10. Don't forget...its the theory of supply AND demand.
Also, remember, that the oil companies costs are going up sky-high with the price of oil (I'm not saying they are beleagured, since they are making big profits now...only that they are buying the oil from OPEC et. al. at these huge costs as well). Plus, the cost of exploration goes up all the time.

11. I would need to see evidence that oil companies costs are rising...
...in order to believe it. If exploration is becoming more challenging then the advances in technology should serve to balance that out. But I could be wrong. I'm anything but an expert.

It just pisses me off that Repugs said oil would skyrocket if Gore won, and now they are silent.
