1. Not unless China invades Taiwan
I sincerely doubt that Germany and the US are going to clash anytime soon.

To begin with, it would be pretty difficult for Germany to deal with the fact that it has American troops already on its soil.

4. How handy that Shrub has closed our German bases just in time
for them to make that threat. If you follow the path of stink it always leads to the chimp, it never fails.

10. Threatening us with what?
I know what's-his-name is using Iran as a campaign issue in Germany. But the idea that they can threaten the US with any credibility is pretty ludicrous.

VIDEO (BBC NEWS TOP STORY): Germany attacks U.S. on Iran threat
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has warned the US to back away from the possibility of military action against Iran.

His comments come a day after President Bush reiterated that force remained an option. Fergal Parkinson reports.

12. I saw that too
I blanked on Schroeder's name for some reason.

But it sounds like me threatening my 6'2 cousin not to piss me off. There's not much I could do to him if he continued.

21. Close...I'm an attorney
I'm not being smug. It's just that Germany is not in much of a position to threaten the US at the moment.

17. Germany threatening us is laughable, but...
I do think the NATO countries are ready to tell shrub to shove it, as far as backing him up in anymore grabbing of ANY other countries! Where the threat of global war comes in, is if Bush nukes anyone and he would not have another choice, but, to nuke Iran right now, if he did decide to pounce on them. Our military is spread so thin now, that the DoD can't cover all the bases. To think of a conventional invasion of Iran, NOW, would be total insanity.

I think China and Russia would be on us, like stink on shit, if bush started nuking ANYONE! I think in a case such as that, that NATO countries wouldn't lift a finger to help bush take over another country, like he has Iraq, regardless, of how he would attempt to carry a silly plan like that out. Even the neocons, couldn't be stupid enough to try a move like that.

On the other hand the neocons are some crazy mothers! IRAN is the powder keg now and Poppy's Little War Chimp has the Doomsday matches out playing with them.

5. It could very well happen.
The UK(Jack Straw)has said they disagree with Bush's insane ideas about invading Iran.

Britain keeps distance from talk of strike on Iran

I don't think Bush has the balls to go it alone! UNLESS he plans to use nukes!

7. I had a premonition in 2000 that ** would get us into the worst
war we had ever seen.

Unfortunately it didn't give any details and I wasn't clear on whether we was America or humanity.

But my gut says the latter.

.. not a voice.. but just suddenly knowing that it would happen if he took the oval office.

Now if only someone Up There had sent me that message prior to the election, along with info on the election fraud to come... *sigh*

move the doomsday clock forward some time in the next couple of months. It hasn't moved since 2002. Since then, * and Co have been doing a lot of saber rattling, especially the last couple of months.

15. Germany can, for a while, impose a unilateral...
... economic boycott--but it would take a while to convince the rest of the EU. There's absolutely no likelihood of them taking up arms against the US.

Russia is a larger problem, in that an attack on Iran will cost them a lot of money--money that Russia needs very badly--but even they would not risk a nuclear exchange with the US.

One has to keep in mind that there are much cooler heads prevailing in the rest of the world than in Washington right now.

If Bush were to use, unilaterally and without provocation, nuclear weapons on Iran, the rest of the world could find ways to retaliate much more effectively than launching nuclear weapons. A steady, continuing dump of dollars onto the world money market, combined with a general economic boycott, would destroy the dollar in a matter of days to weeks. The US economy would collapse utterly. At that point, if Congress didn't act to impeach Bush and Cheney and his whole bunch immediately, we could probably expect torches and pitchforks and guillotines on Capitol Hill and the White House lawn.

What the White House isn't about to admit is that the US economy is very fragile--thanks to massive debt and increasing imbalance of trade--and the rest of the world knows that. They continue to buy dollars to protect the value of the ones they already have. But, they could stand a little shared hardship to get rid of Bush.

Consider this: the 1973 oil slowdown produced about a 4% shortfall, and the lines to gas stations were legendary--same with the embargo in 1978. Now, imagine a 60% shortfall from a world-wide embargo against the United States....

Cheers.
