What I don't understand about the people who attack Cindy Sheehan
Have they never experienced a loss of their own before?

It isn't unusual to see mothers and fathers dedicate their lives to a cause after experiencing the hell of burying their own child. Mothers Against Drunk Driving comes to mind. So does John Walsh with America's Most Wanted.

Cindy Sheehan lost her son to a war that was never honestly explained or justified to the American public. Perhaps those who can't accept dissent would have an easier time if Cindy lost her son to cancer or violence within our own borders so that their faith in George wouldn't be challenged. How selfish of these people to lash out against Cindy because she isn't mourning in a way that makes them comfortable about their politics and their preferred leader.

As a parent, I am sickened by the audacity of these people telling a woman how she should and should not mourn her child.

2. They know
Everyone knows, deep down, that she is right. But some of them are getting angry because rather than face the truth, they lash out at the people pointing it out to them.

11. bingo to you and the OP- she
is wiping away the fog on the lenses of those who don't want to see the fact that in truth, a 'noble loss' is no real consolation.
That chair is just as empty, the sneakers no longer squeak on the kitchen linolium floor, the smell is sometimes 'hinted at'- but then you have to remind yourself, it's your imagination- or that face in the crowd, who looks JUST like him, so much so, that you believe, if only for a few seconds, just long enough to get your heart pounding... until the reality that you put that teddy bear in cold stiff hands, and the wooden casket closed on him, not to be re-opened....

People don't like to be awakened from 'pleasant' or at least 'pleasanter' illusions- it makes it to friggin real, and it makes them hurt, and that often makes them angry- and that too often goes off on the wrong people- or one's self.

Cindy is grieving in the best way i believe anyone can- putting that pain, anger, TRUTH, sorrow, and energy to a positive use.- bringing something LIFE-GIVING out of death.

kudos, for pointing that out- and to her for seeing 'real people'-

3. They're afraid of her, and know she's in a powerful position right now, so
they know that it's very politically bad for them, so their only option is to demonize her.

I think that's the long and the short of it.

Bastards!

"dove hunting season"

Har har, I wonder how long it took him to come up with that one.

5. Quite. They're afraid "their" nation is falling apart, and attack.

6. I have to wonder how long that guy would remain free
if he were complaining about right-wing nutjobs protesting a Democrat.

4. You are right on the mark here...
thank you.

It just demonstrates the severe lack of compassion that has personified the right and skewed their policies away from equality.

7. You're speaking as an intact human being...
Those to whom you refer are in a profoundly dissociative state.

Weaponization of the psyche is a scary thing (especially when the drones are programed to destroy YOU). It's also profoundly criminal.

9. It's not about her, it's about supporting *. Period.

If * walked into their homes, raped their daughters and ate their babies, they'd be throwing him cash as they were being led away to execution.

Blind allegiance is just that, blind.

14. it's a very childish way of approaching politics
I can't wrap my brain around the idea of supporting a politician above everything. Even when support for this war was at its all time high, I never imagined a mother of a fallen soldier would be attacked. This is just insane.

10. The righties are on the wrong side of this much like the
Terri Schiavo case. You can't beat bereaved parents. Those headlines will out sell anything Rove can imagine. It's unfortunate but it's reality.

12. John Walsh and his wife also divorced shorty after Adams murder.
I remember reading about it at the time, and John went on with his activism and saved countless kids with his TV program and his foundation..

This is a very good comparison to Cindy. It's very commonplace for 2 parents to resent each other after the death of a child.

13. death of a child will easily destroy the family
what a horrible and sad reality. I can't imagine the sheer amount of stress a couple goes through when both are mourning so intensely. Needless to say, losing my daughter is my biggest fear.

They couldn't possibly continue to support the idiot-in-chief, unless they were deeply disturbed.
