Cindy's effect. I supervise an employee whose son is a Marine in Iraq
I came back to work tanned and energized after being at Camp Casey for the week.

My employees were remarking on how "relaxing" my vacation must have been. (LOL)

I kept pretty quiet about it. However, our receptionist has a son who is in the Marines and in Iraq. I told her where I'd been.

She hugged me and thanked me. She told me she and her son both voted for Kerry.

She also said that if anything happened to him, she would have been there. And, of course, I would have instantly approved the time off.

He's a young guy, 19 y/o, joined the Marines because of the limited options for work.

Actually, I mispoke about where he is right now. He was in Iraq until two weeks ago. He is currently in San Diego for a month's leave. This woman had to send him money so he could afford to come here to CO to see her before he is redeployed to, guess where.

She's hoping to see him for about 10 days.

His last assignment was manning a checkpoint in Fallujah. He called her once and said, "you can't believe what we've done to these people."

I hate what this f***ing war has done to decent people in this country.

Anyway, this is my last, best story about my time in Crawford.

video of me, in a straw hat, hugging Cindy. I pray that this lovely lady at my work doesn't have to experience the pain that Cindy is living.

3. I privately fear for her son. I was thrilled when he came back to the
states for his month long leave.

However, the specter of his return to Iraq hangs over all of her plans to see him.

She's also 100% behind Cindy. She knows, based on what her son has told her, that there is no coherent mission.

It's a tough time for all of her family.
