White crosses at site of anti-war demonstration run down by pickup

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - A pickup truck tore through rows of white crosses last night near President Bush's ranch, where a woman has been protesting the Iraq war.

The crosses stretched along the road at the Crawford, Texas, camp, bore the names of fallen U-S soldiers. No one was hurt.

Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq last year, vows to remain in Texas through Bush's August vacation unless he meets with her.

Meanwhile, court documents reveal that Sheehan's husband has filed for divorce in California. The couple were high school sweethearts. But Cindy Sheehan says they separated because of the stress caused by their son's death.

1. again, if the roles were reversed here
and it had been a 'pro-war' rally, the bias would be much different.

That's my call.

You'd have in depth coverage about how people like that hate 'Murika non-stop for several days afterward.

5. most of the headlines have been about the divorse--not about the crosses
being mowed down (at this point)--the goggle stories generally include one short paragraphs about this sad insident.

9. It's a step above the earlier story where they led with the divorce
and listed the desecration as an afterthought.

It's a step in the right direction.

10. Ugh.
"Meanwhile" makes a really nice segway from talking about cross and flag desecration and dishonoring the dead to Cindy's potential divorce, which has zero to do with the rest of the 'article'. :eyes:

11. That's okay ....
Crosses and flags are symbols. The human being i the truck's action was also symbolic. A newspaper isn't going to be able to report accurately on the true meaning of this event.

The intent was to insult, to hurt, and to anger Cindy and the others there. The goal is to degrade the peace movement. Do not allow that to happen. We all have the ability to react by lashing out in anger and hatred, or to respond by focusing on the symbolism.

It will take longer than 24, or 48, or even 72 hours for the media to have worth-while articles on this event. But it will happen.

12. Does that mean the locals think the deaths are not worth anything?
Maybe that should have put flags on each cross? We know that they think a piece of cloth with a set pattern on it is very important. People do not seem to be that important to these Right wing people if they are the ones that did it.

13. "No one was hurt."
Somehow these words just don't belong in the article.
