Where were you when Elvis died 28 Years ago today?

I was leaving class at the University of Arkansas on my way to work at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville. It was nothing but Elvis on the rock and roll station for days.

1. Was on a car trip with my parents from Havre, MT to Chillicothe, MO.

We stopped in Wolf Point, MT to pick up my brother who was being dropped off of the bus from this "Young Life" camp, about which the less said the better. His eyes and mouth were ablaze with the salvation only teen lust could bring.

2. I was at summer camp.

Beautiful Camp St. Christopher on Seabrook Island, SC. Very sad day. Many kids were crying and in shock.

3. On a playground behind our apartment building in Utah.

I was only 10, but I couldn't believe the King had died..

5. Girl Scout camp

In New Hampshire. A lot of folks were in shock there. I don't recall that I had much of a reaction at all, 'cause I was never a big Elvis fan.

7. I was at the broadway play "Grease" in NYC....

they stopped the show, announced his death and we all had a moment of silence.

8. I have been an Elvis fan since the age of 5

That was around 1969 or so. When Elvis died I wasn't really listening to him a lot because I was discovering a lot of new music.
That night I was at a friend's house and fro some odd reason he put on "Live at Madison Square Garden" and we just listened to it. We had not heard he had died.
When I got home my whole family were watching TV and they all just turned and looked at me. I was like "What? What did I do?", then they told me Elvis had died. It was a shocker for everyone in the family, even for my father who wasn't much of a fan.

12. I was a young girl (about 9 years old)

and had spent the night at my grandma's. She woke me the next morning and broke the news to me. We spent the whole day together listening to Elvis and watching the news on TV.

15. Me too. I was a bit older

I was inside the house watching TV because it was excruciatingly hot outside that day. I remember my mom walking in the door with packages from the store and she dropped them in shock when I told her the news I had just heard on TV.

Not only did I have a huge crush on him, but Elvis and I have the same b-day and I felt so sad. :-(

13. Basic Electronics School at the Naval Training Center, Orlando

A beautiful day, as I remember. My buddy Dave and I had morning classes and then the rest of the day off. Our duty rotation was 21 days and that was a wonderful thing.

We were young, strong and pretty free (after 12:00 noon, that is).
