Why do we even NEED the House & Senate?
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 08:27 AM by SoCalDem
Today's news bit about the "Selling of John Roberts"..George Soule is being paid to "travel around 14 states to talk about his friend.. For a guy who is going to be a factor in getting the public acceptance, he has so far claimed to not know very much about the funding of the organization he works for..other than "they are paying his way"./.

JudgeRoberts.com is his website..

But I digress...

These days EVERYONE does an 'end around' the legislative process anyway, so why are we still pretending that they are "doing our business"?

We supposedly elect people who think like we do, and share our values, yet lobbyists with wads of cash can sway them to vote totally opposite from what we PAY them to.

each party spends money hiring "consultants" and uses those people to twist the meanings of every piece of legislation,so that they barely resemble what they started out as.

Media does not bother to report facts, so most people don't even KNOW what's happening, until it's truly too late to do much about it.

IF we are to believe any poll, we would easily arrive at the position that what *² wants to do to Social Security is NOT supported by anyone except for his rabid core group, yet he knows that with enough media support, and enough lies, he CAN (and probably will) manage to tweak it just enough to infect it with a terminal condition, and by the time it's in full "un-ravel" mode, HE will be long gone..

There is truly NO ONE to be held accountable. The judges that get appointed in any administration are just a living legacy , who will in most cases, cover for any transgressions that pop up later.. They are an insurance policy, and rarely benefit the common man. Civil Rights is a prime issue... If it's "settled law", why are we still fighting to keep it.. same for abortion.. NOTHING is ever "settled law".. A zealot with two terms can, and often does damage that lasts well beyond their term in office..

It would almost be more honest to just not expect anything from congress, and instead, just know that whoever becomes president 9no matter how he/she does it) WILL have their way with the nation and its resources, and just quit worrying about what 'we" should do or "should have done"..

We, the people don't really matter much anymore.

6. That is the funniest, most honest response regarding our Legislative
Branch that I have seen in a long time. One problem though . . . we never get invited . . .but we pay for it all.:dunce:

2. The theory is that they will
hold each other responsible. each State gets two senators to make sure each state has the same amount of representation, and as many congressmen as needed, based on population.

3. We need the House and Senate to maintain the
illusion we are still a republic, contrary to what happened December 12, 2000, and in the Diebold-controlled elections of 2002 and 2004.

Perhaps someday soon we will face up to what has happened and rent Capitol Hill to Disney for an entertainment center, where beloved characters such as Mickey, Minnie and Goofy can put on historical reenactments of great moments from the Republic's past, which would be both profitable and educational.

4. Each branch of government is SUPPOSE to have equal power. However,
this president does as he pleases and no one in the Legislative Branch does much to stop him from doing anything he wants. He waits until they go on their month's vacation (is this the fourth one so far this year), and then he can do anything he wants because they are not on the floor of the Congress. The Judiciary should do something about this president since the Legislative Branch bitch about it but do nothing. Why do we need just the Legislative Branch to start the papers of impeachment? He doesn't follow the constitution, so why should the other branches of equally powerful government follow it. It's like that joke about how Iraq can have our Constitution because we sure aren't using it anymore.

So the people should try to do something about this mess but we do nothing. But what can we do . . . a coup? Maybe in the 1700's when the government military had the same guns as the people; however, the people could not start a revolution and take over this government with the military backing we have provided them with.

Revolution???? Only with another government's help and who would dare to take on the U.S. in the U.S.? Maybe we could get the Canadians and the French to help us????? (joking).

but that's it.

The only way to "roll it back"..would be to increase the number of representatives, so that it would truly represent the population.. In some districts out here in CA, especially, ONE rep has a HUGE district and others have very small ones.. Computers could easily "grid" the states, and break up districts via REAL boundary lines..and no one rep could represent more than 75K people..same for senators.. the old "2 per state" worked fine when we were a small country with most states clustered together with fairly equal populations, but it makes NO sense at all for Wyoming, Idaho, Montana,Utah, and a few other sparsely populated states to be able to DICTATE how the people who financially support this nation must live..

We need a change..and soon..or we will have nothing left worth having..

Our jobs have been given away..our treasury has been robbed and sent into debt for decades ahead..our education system has had its carcass picked clean..our infrastructure is crumbling..our citizens get very little in return for their labors, and it's only going to get worse..

8. Oh yeah, forgot about that. They also can lose a lot of it to. Like that
9 billion dollars they lost. Seems to me 9 billion dollars would weigh quite a bit and could probably be seen from one of our spy satellites. Strange, we complain about the MSM, but then they report stories such as the 9 billion dollars, we do nothing, say nothing, act like we hear nothing, so why should they follow up with it???

7. It makes it convenient for the lobbyists to run the country.
It keeps all the recipients of bribes...er, donations, close to hand to receive their orders.

And, the media can find them to make speeches to maintain the illusion that we live in a "democracy" rather than the reality of the oligarchy that exists.
