Where are our Democratic Leaders now?

Ron Brownstein (whether you like the guy, agree or disagree with him, or not) made some interesting points on CNN just a bit ago. He mentioned the fact that 8 Gallup polls have been done lately and every one of them has shown that the majority of American people now believe that the Iraq invasion was wrong and that we should not have gone in there.

However, he points out that there is no real countervaling move by anyone, no real call for withdrawal, etc. He does point out that Cindy Sheehan's case may very well provide some impetus for a stronger resistance, but there is nothing coming from the DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP... and guess what, he's right! Other than Conyers and a few others of his ilk, the majority of Dems in Congress are of the Joe Biden variety... "We're there now and we've got to finish the job and do it just like * is doing it."

Why is it that, with the Will of the American People turned against the war, our Democratic leaders are still so silent and compliant in this matter? Are they complicit? Do they fear for their political lives? Has Hackett and others who have resisted and shown a great deal of success in their political endeavors NOT been enough of an example for them? They run from Howard Dean who is emerging as one of the only voices of resistance in the upper echelons. Just what is going on? Does anyone have any ideas as to why this stagnation in the Democratic leadership? Call me baffled! :banghead:

1. I bet that Dean will show up at Camp Casey before the end of the month.

5. I don't think Dean will visit Cindy, but he did stick up for her on Face

the Nation Sunday. He said that Bush should meet with her because he had sacrificed her son.

If Dean visits her, it will be very low key, like Maxine Waters visit. The problem with Dean visiting is that the Media will exploit it and the RW pundits will use it to smear Cindy's true goals. But I do seen Dean continuing to stand up for her right to protest and meet with Bush.

I think Cindy's protest without politicians interfering is doing wonders to showcase RW hypocrisy and immorality. Her battle is against Bush, not the Democrats.

2. One explanation you won't like is this

They actually believe that it would be better for America and for Iraq if they finished the job and helped Iraq make the transition to a peaceful democracy.

Now I am pretty skeptical that that is possible; but they may believe that it is.

There is a big difference between opposing the war and wanting to end it immediately.

7. Interestingly, that has apparently not been a question...

the only ones I have seen reported are the ones saying that the majority of Americans think it was a mistake to have gone in. It would certainly be interesting to see what kind of responses they would get from a question about withdrawal... indeed!
