Judge makes mom take NU settlement

Linda Will held her head and cried Monday after losing -- in a sense -- her four-year crusade to hold Northwestern University accountable for the death of her son, football player Rashidi Wheeler.

"I feel you are being totally unfair and biased," Will told Judge Kathy Flanagan, who let Will complain at length from the courtroom floor. "I think you are abusing your position and power."

Flanagan removed Will as executor of her son's estate so Will's ex-husband George Wheeler could accept a $16 million settlement from Northwestern on behalf of himself, Will and Wheeler's four siblings and half-siblings.

Will said early on she did not want Northwestern's money: She wanted the school to take the blame for her son's death from an asthma attack in an against-the-rules pre-season practice session in 2001. She wanted all staff involved, including head football coach Randy Walker, fired. She wanted a memorial erected to her son.
