I know that pro-choicers aren't the freak-out type who'd do something like that, but just work with me for a minute...

What would the reaction be? How would it be handled by the media? How would it be spun? How many heads would explode?

3. You would see an unbelievable attempt to whip out outrage
on the part of the right wing.
However, have you ever heard of anything like this happening? I haven't. Yet the Larry Northerns of this country are a dime a dozen.

The harrassment and death threats would soon follow.

But we are better than that, right?

Right?

are saner, more responsible and more respectful than the petulant and childish right wingers.

10. I must say, I never would have thought of doing something like that...
And this wasn't spontaneous...this guy jury-rigged up chains and pipes to do this.

Nutty. Absolutely freakin' nutty.

Just wasn't done as a political statement like the one in Crawford obviously was.

13. The same way...
Reading the link you provided, and the one immediately above it, the driver in this case was drunk, lived next door to the church, confessed to it, and police said he didn't know what the crosses were there for.

"The traveling protest has met resistance before, but officers don't think the man responsible for the destruction was targeting the display's meaning. Police say Justin Saint John Haes admitted he ran over the crosses, they even found a piece of one lodged under his van. But officers say the 29-year-old who lives near the church had no idea what the crosses represented."

http://www.kcrg.com/article.aspx?art_id=97526&cat_id=123

Besides symbolic crosses being run over, how are the two incidents similar? Larry rigged up chains and pipes to drag down these crosses in Crawford. Did this man in Waterloo do this with the same premediation?

18. I'd have to say that pro-lifers brought 'hate crime' to this issue...
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 04:54 PM by Hobarticus
Wouldn't you agree?

Late October and early November esd referred to as the "killing season" by some abortion-rights advocates. Abortion providers in northern New York state and Canada were attacked on five of the six years from 1994 to 1998:

1994-NOV-8: Dr. Garson Romalis of Vancouver BC was shot in the leg.
1995-NOV-10: Dr. Hugh Short of Ancaster ON (Near Hamilton) was shot in the elbow.
1996: No shootings occurred.
1997-OCT-28: A physician in Rochester NY received minor shrapnel wounds.
1997-NOV-11: Dr Jack Fainman of Winnipeg MN was shot in the shoulder.
1998-OCT-23: Dr Barnett Slepian from Amherst NY (near Buffalo) was murdered.

All five were shot through a glass window or door at their homes. Rewards totaling $547,000 (about $365,000 in US funds) were offered by Canadian authorities for information leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible. There is speculation that the timing of the shootings was tied to Remembrance Day, celebrated in Canada on NOV-11, and to Veteran's Day celebrated in the U.S. on the same day. This is the occasion when the country remembers its war dead. The shooter in each case used a rifle, and shot from the rear of the doctors' homes at dusk or in the evening. James Charles Kopp (a.k.a. Atomic Dog) was indicted in 1999-JUN for the murder of Dr. Slepian. He was on the FBI's "10 most wanted Fugitives" list for years until he was arrested in France and returned to the U.S. for trial. It is obvious that Kopp was helped to remain out of sight by an underground group.

Google "abortion clinic crimes", and I got 244,000 hits. Lots of stats on violent crime visited upon clinics, doctors, and workers by pro-lifers. We'll call those 'hate crimes', if you wish.

30. From your "Life" link:
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 05:22 PM by ultraist
The pro-choice movement has been terrorized by the anti-choice movement for over 30 years, including bombings, arson, harassment, and even murders," Kathryn Burton of the Massachusetts Abortion Access Project told the St. Augustine Record.

FYI: several of your links are not working. :eyes:

16. lol I forgot about Trailer Hitch Jesus!
Poor trailer hitch Jesus... You know, I remember watching that and thinking, Jesus is in Heaven covering his eyes and shaking his head at this...

Jesus:"Hey, Dad! Do you see what they're doing down there? They've got me hooked up to a freakin' trailer hitch! Can I send a hurricane over there? I can!? Alright!!! Now, if Satan would stop blocking all those ones I'm sending straight at Jeb..."

15. Oh man, you wouldn't be able to change the channel...
without seeing the 'outrage' at the non-Christian attacks upon the honest Christian folk and the symbol of their religion. "See! Another example of the attacks upon Christianity in America" they would scream...

Don't hold your breath waiting for the rw Christians to come out on this one... They'll take the position that it was 'sacrilegious' to use them at Camp Casey in the first place...

Remember, they've gotta 'catapult the propaganda'!

23. Also remember the point Franken made in his book...
At the 2000 Repug Convention, Cheney spoke of flying over Arlington National Cemetary and admiring the "crosses row on row" -- even though Arlington National doesn't have crosses. Nobody paid that any mind, but they all couldn't get enough of the Al Gore stories about the internet, "Love Story", etc. that were largely misprepresentations of what Gore said.
