Seriously, I spent several hours there surfing around and reading. Many of the people there seem quite bright based on their posts. It's sheer arrogance to assume that Freepers are stupid. Ignorant, perhaps, but not stupid.

I see a large portion of the nation deeply concerned about our future, roughly in consensus about a number of issues, but deeply divided as to which political party best represents their views.

There are reasonable conservatives on some non-political boards. I've met them (and some of thier rabid or braindead brethren) on attatchment parenting boards and on boards for fans of some books I'm fond of. The political discussions on those boards tend to be gentler and more diverse than most political boards, which tend to turn into free-for-alls or eventually get moderated into bland uselessness if both sides just bash on each other all day.
