Are we carrying Cindy Sheehan too far?
http://watchingthewatchers.org/story/2005/8/16/1408/24369

Don't get me wrong. I truly feel for her. I'm so sorry she had to lose her son in this illegal war in Iraq that our administration is still so hellbent on selling. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose your only child. I wouldn't WANT to even imagine it, as I have one child myself.

Now the poor woman has subjected herself to scrutiny from the likes of Bill O'Liely and Michelle Malkin. I can't imagine how such hurtful lies and rhetoric could be harming her psyche.

Now the public has to know all about her husband filing for divorce. That's none of our business. What marriage could take the stress of losing a child? I don't know that mine could, and I love my husband dearly. But people deal with losses in different ways, and perhaps their ways conflicted with each other.

Then, we have some dumbass shit-for-brains run over the white wooden crosses that represent our fallen troops with his pickup truck. (Funny how it HAD to be a pickup truck...)

Let's face it. Geedubya is NEVER going to meet with Mrs. Sheehan. He doesn't have the compassion or the guts to do it.

And while I admire Mrs. Sheehan's stick-to-it attitude, perhaps she could do more good meeting with representatives and senators, starting letter-writing campaigns, or perhaps using her status to try to obtain information from those in the know that could lead to the end of this war and the possible indictment of members of this administration.

69. Yeah!
This is a strong woman who can take the heat. She has catalyzed a voiceless antiwar movement. It could have been anyone. It happened to be her because she had the courage to be first. She took on the world all by herself and has inadvertently become the symbol and leader of the peace party. She is really a hero.

And the reason she will succeed is because of the love for her son. No matter what her critics say, they cannot successfully interject themselves in that mother-son relationship. That's why this story is real. It's the first real honest-to-God truth we've seen since this whole Iraq mess started.

I don't think so.
As you know, the majority of our Senators and Representatives are about as worthless as tits on a boar hog.
Cindy has the attention. She has effectively put the ball in Georgie's court and she isn't letting him squirm away.
Too many people let that worthless shit shirk responsibilities and I for one am GLAD that Cindy is standing her ground and not going away.

In the meantime, I'm sick of reading talking points that seem to be dry-runs from HF interns. I'm not saying that's where this came from, but it sounds just wacky enough that it could be.

Note that they all seem to fall with a quiet, unspectacular thud.

My admiration for her is tremendous. She is brilliant and resilient in her valiant efforts and deserves our total moral support even if we do not agree with every single one of her opinions 100%. We are not carrying her along, she is leading, setting an example of determination in the face of adversity and providing a forum for overlooked Americans devastated by George Bush's decision to invade Iraq. She and all Americans deserve answers and accountability from him and his criminal administration for the Iraq tragedy.

24. who exactly is "we?"
Cindy is doing what she is doing because she feels it is the right thing to do. She has already lost most of her family and has nothing else to lose. Cindy would be sitting in that hot dusty field even if 100's or 1,000's of supporters hadn't shown up. "We" don't control Cindy and what she does or for what reason she does it any more than the righty nutcases do. Why do people always have to stomp all over someone elses gig and try to point out how they think it could be done better? Think letter writing is effective? Write one.

Please do not include me in your grand "we".

I don't have a clue as to what you mean by "we".

Have you been down there in the ditch beside this woman who lost her son in Bush's war?

I really am appalled by armchair internet typists who sit back in the comfort of their homes and critique activists who bleed in the streets and somehow confuse their comfy typing with street activism.

Really!

Sorry, but your post reminds me of Salieri counseling Mozart that his composition "perhaps just had too many notes."

Criticize Bush, not Sheehan.

This is at least the second thread asking something of this sort? Why can't the woman exercise her free speech without conditions attached? I don't understand why there are comments like this after all the support shown for her here and everywhere. My god, she's done what most would never do. It's up to her when to quit and I support her decision when she makes it, but I would never suggest that she do so for some reason other than her personal choice.

She's met with reps and senators, and like many here, I'll bet she has written the letters...

Now, she's sick and tired of it, and is standing up in a DITCH to demand answers.

52. What- Is she cutting into your Aruba coverage?
Is there some incredibly important aspect of, say, Brad and Angelina's relationship that the media is neglecting to tell you about because they're taking time to talk about Cindy Sheehan?

Because, frankly, despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of people -myself included- have protested the Iraq war in various places and various ways in the past two years, the media's coverage has been slim to nonexistent.. well, really just nonexistent.

Now, Cindy Sheehan comes along and actually has the ear of the MSM in a small, tiny way- and all of a sudden people are saying "she ought to pack it in".

I know why she pisses off the Republicans and the Bushbots. Less clear is why she bothers some here.

But, whatever... It would be physically impossible for me to disagree with you more than I do.

It is her business how she chooses to remember her son. (I doubt that any of the bullshit that Bill O'Reilly or Michelle Malkin can spew is in danger of "damaging her psyche" more than losing a child to a war based on lies has!)

I have the deepest respect for what she has chosen to do, I wholeheartedly support her effort, and I think every day she stays out there she more and more establishes herself as a genuine American hero.

62. In most instances personality politics and icons
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 10:46 PM by sintax
are a distraction and disempowering. This situation is quite different.

this is possibly a firestorm and Cindy is not only showing courage in the face of the Crawford coward but also saying ,point blank, much of what passes for the political left is afraid to say.

She is a Greek Mother

Seeing things and remaining quiet about them will change nothing, not even ourselves. But saying things - having the courage to testify to our own forbidden knowledge - could be the way the world changes.

65. This could be the catalyst that
our country needs to wake up.

I have heard some devout Repugs say 'why doesn't * just meet with her and get it over with'. Some are even beginning to see the light.

If this vigil of Cindy's prods minds to think that............ Then go for it Cindy!!!!

67. are the neoCONs in HAND-CUFFS, yet?

HELL NO

"perhaps she could do more good meeting with representatives and senators, starting letter-writing campaigns, or perhaps using her status to try to obtain information from those in the know"

how do you think she got "her status"? we need a whole lot more... think CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, WOMENS RIGHTS MOVEMENT, anti-war MOVEMENT... we need a whole lot MORE not less, friend.

this is only just the beginning, and the best beginning i've seen in 5 years :bounce:

psst... pass the word ;->

peace
