"There was one rule -- no one overtakes the president."
from "Bush to ride with cycling champion Armstrong"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050816/ts_nm/bush_armstrong_dc

What a petty, juvenile, little twerp our leader is. "No one overtakes the president"--even the 7-time TDF winner. Keep that hand on the brake, Lance. We wouldn't want your front wheel to sneak ahead a hair and injure *'s delicate pride. :eyes:

3. I thought Lance was a Democrat who was going to get into politics.
Seems like an odd P.R. move.

16. Bush says Armstrong is an "old friend"...
... from when Bush was governor and Armstrong had lobbied him for some help with cancer research funding, things like that.

That said, Armstrong's been a bit harsher about the war in Iraq, but his comments only seem to center around how the money could be spent better--on cancer research, he inevitably says.

He's an accomplished and successful athlete. I'm not so sure he's a great thinker, though, and one would hope he would have more sense than to align himself with Bush. That doesn't help him accomplish his agenda, although it might help him get elected in Texas.

George wishes he had what Lance is made of. It would be cool if Lance brought up politics, though...

5. that was for those reporters who he does not like anyway. doubt he

will tell armstrong that.

....Bush turned to mountain biking after a knee injury forced him to give up running. He took a small group of reporters on a two-hour ride on his ranch in the August heat last weekend. There was one rule -- no one overtakes the president.

Bush has had his share of spills, including during the G-8 summit in Scotland in July when he slid and collided with a police officer and suffered scrapes on his hands and arms.

20. Just another example of Bush's mental instability
Only Bush is allowed to "show off".

Remember when David Gregory spoke French to Chirac in a joint Bush/Chirac press conference? Bush had to use Spanish to feel like he wasn't being upstaged.

Bush: "The guy memorizes four words, and he plays like he's intercontinental." "I'm impressed—que bueno. Now I'm literate in two languages."

At the end of the press conference, Bush called to Gregory saying: "As soon as you get in front of a camera, you start showing off."

I'm surprised Bush doesn't have rules like the Japanese Emperor, where you can't turn your back on him while departing from his presence, but have to face him and withdraw as you bow deeply.

25. Why am I thinking Ron Richardson on "Mr. Mom"?
Or "Breaking Away"? I could see a bunch of SS agents trying to lodge sticks in Lance's spokes when he pulls ahead . . . "must . . . preserve . . . Fearless Leader's . . . infallibility . . . "

Holy shitfire that's frigging stupid.

From now on, if anyone says they voted for Bush around me . . . I'm going to just laugh obnoxiously and loudly (like Curtis Armstrong on Better off Dead), point at them and not stop until I'm blue in the face.
