Leonard Peltier transferred to USP Lewisburg

Aho My Relations,

On August 15, 2005 I was transferred to USP Lewisburg in Pennsylvania. Life has been extra difficult for me since I was transferred from Leavenworth. This system is designed to make one feel very powerless, and what they are doing with me now is definitely aimed to erode my body and spirit even more. My loved ones, and all of you, my friends and allies who continue to support me, keep me sane and hopeful.




They say that it is in times of crisis that one can really see who your real allies are. Those of you who have contacted the Terre Haute Prison and the Bureau of Prisons on my behalf, keep me in your prayers, and are supporting my Defense Committee, have made an enormous difference in my situation. I humbly thank each and every one of you, and firmly believe that your actions most certainly saved my life and prevented me from living in an institution that is well known for its extremely high crime and violence. Also, health problems continue to plague me and the conditions I was subjected to exacerbated them. I know deep within my heart, that if there had not been such an outpouring of support, concern and overall outcry regarding my arbitrary detention, I would have probably stayed in solitary confinement for an indefinite length of time, or worse I would not have survived in the general prisoner population. Although I have been forced to endure many hardships, I will never surrender, even if all that is left of me is my spirit. Your love and support inspire me to overcome everything......

2. The fact that Leonard

was not released during the Clinton years is still, despite all the heinous and unnecessary suffering that has occurred under * since then, still saddens me tremendously.

Still under Clinton, I had hope that this man could eventually become the true shaman that he was intended to be.

Now I just hope he finds inner peace and is not tortured.

Long shot I know.

6. After the Pardon that wasn't under Clinton......

...my hope is that Leonard lives to be a hundred....he's got another 35 years to go and he's 60 now- then they HAVE to let him out, whether they want to or not. And I hope he lives long enough to see those Prison gates open for him....

...I have to admit that Leonard and his situation is something of an obsession of mine. So, anytime there is an update on him, his situation or his fight for Justice I'll be slapping it on here - unless someone beats me to it, of course - if that's ok.

Glad to know I have a new friend here to help
keep DU current on what we can do to help LP.

We must not let him fade frm the public eye
and awareness- which is what the "powers that be"
have always counted on happening, that if he
was "out of sight," he would eventually be "out of mind."

fighting for justice fro Leonard?

Have you posted this in the NAm forum and maybe even the Astro-Spiritual forum??

This whole thing is just so cruel and so insane....great idea to keep this kicked and in peoples faces.

I appreciate you guys for putting this here...I will write a nice letter. I have been past Lewisberg enough times when I lived back in PA and the vibes I got from that place were just really awful.

Saying prayers for our brother LP....consider me another DU buddy for Leonard Peltier.

12. What can I do to help?

From what I have read, I believe he was falsely convicted and can at the least write a letter, but to who? Bush will not pardon him, and I don't know what would be effective. I may not be a relation, but I do care and want to see him a free man again.

13. At this time.....

...a letter to the Warden of USP Lewisburg is what the LPDC is asking for. Just to let them know that we are aware of Leonard's move to their facility and to ask that he may be allowed his religious rights, visitations, phone calls, his painting, etc. Just a little reminder to the officials that no matter what they do to him, or how many times they shuffle him back and forth - we will keep up with him. Just please, be polite and nice when you write or call since we don't want to tick of the Prison Officials and have them take out their frustration on Leonard. He'll have a hard enough time as it is.

19. Judge Lamberth removed by justice dept.

I heard on the radio today the story of the judge who has been on the case for land rights, repayment for the indians for the last nine years has been removed because they don't like what he is saying about the interior department, that they are cultural dinosaurs etc.

Peltier was initially protesting for indian rights, and that is how he got into trouble.
