Why I have hope
I attended one of the house parties last night. I live in Johnson County, Kansas, which feels like a purely Republican stronghold most of the time. There were about 14 of us there, and we were united in our intense dislike of George W Bush and what's happened to this country in the last two and a half years.

One woman said she'd made a trip recently, and flying home sat next to a man who said he was a life-long Republican, but there was no way he'd vote for Bush again.

I know that everywhere I go I can strike up casual conversation with total strangers and almost always find a deep undercurrent of distrust and dislike of the current administration.

I come to DU and read things like "It's time to Go Back to Crawford" by Dennis Jones on todays' front page and I know that people far more eloquent than I are speaking out and making their opinions available for others to read.

Personally, I have no faith that there really will be a fair and honest election come November 2, 2004. But if there is, Bush will go down in a landslide like none that has ever been seen in this country before.

2. But that will only mean something if we put in someone who
is committed to creating real, serious, MAJOR change. We need MAJOR change, not merely cosmetic change.

3. Hi neighbor!
Kansas is an interesting place to be for a democrat isn't it? Sometimes I think I will lose my mind but I too am hearing these stories from the very people who get dissed a lot here on DU. The farmers, rural rubes as they would have you believe, are not stupid. They may sound stupid but they know what is right. Now, IF we manage to get the BBV taken care of and we all pull behind our candidate I think Bush* will go down so hard it could be actually amusing.
