WP spun the incident similarly. Where's the outrage?

LAT Times:
Protesters Don't Find Many Welcome Mats
By Warren Vieth, Times Staff Writer

CRAWFORD, Texas -- Melissa Harrison thought she was just being neighborly when she let a group of antiwar activists hold a news conference on her property. Then her father, who lives just down the road, began calling her Hanoi Jane.

Even in Crawford, which prides itself on its laid-back lifestyle and friendly people, the good-neighbor thing has its limits....

***

As the town nearest to President Bush's ranch has gone from being a media outpost to an antiwar encampment, frictions between the outsiders and the local population have begun to intensify.

A man from nearby Waco drove to the protest camp in his pickup truck and deliberately ran over small crosses planted along the road to honor the Iraq war dead. Larry Northern, 46, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief.

A sheep rancher whose property is across the road fired a shotgun in the air to protest the protests. Some residents have called on the county commission to do something about the crowd....

1. I do not regard the LA Times as a pro-Bush rag
And that Crawfordites overwhelmingly dislike Sheehan and her supports (with a few notable exceptions) should be no surprise to anyone.

The people in that town have an almost cult-like worship of their Dear Leader. Replace all the Bush idolatry there with pictures of Kim Il Sung and you'd think you were in North Korea.

In fact, if you go outside of the five biggest cities in Texas, and outside of the Rio Grande valley counties, Bush has an almost Christ-like stature in Texas. With the exception of those above mentioned places, criticism of Bush in Texas is simply not allowed.

2. WRONG! The people of Crawford do not overwhelmingly dislike Sheehan,
nor do they overwhelmingly admire Bush. I honestly believe they wish this would all go away.

The people in this town do not have a "cult-like" worship of Bush.

Bush does not have a "christ-like" stature in Texas. Have you ever even been here?

Please. Criticism is allowed, it is just harder that is all.

You seem to be trying to fan some flames rather than provide support.

5. I'm honestly glad you didn't leave us, we need all the warriors we can
amass. And your right, here in Texas, NOT everyone believes his guy is of God like stature, the shock of nine one one has worn off and the rising gas prices are seriously making people take note as to who is running the show instead of the once constant, Its all Clintons fault..

4. I agree about the LAT -- I regard it as the most valuable newspaper...
in the U.S. today. The coverage of this incident was a lapse, IMO.

6. How stupid, don't these people have a simple map?
Waco is like 25 miles away, and is a big damn city that has fuck-all to do with Crawford.
