Newsweek: Bush cries when talking to families
Anyone read this article in the latest issue? All about how when he meets with families of war dead, he gets all choked up and says he's sorry a million times? That these meetings are "so hard" on him and how he struggles with it??

Is this spin? If so, why is Newsweek spinning for him, when they're usually against? If it's not spin, what the heck? Does Bush really think he's "doing the right thing" and that these deaths are worth it?

I am so confused...

1. In what ways is Newsweek "usually against" Bush?
Do you have any examples of what you mean?

16. hmmm..
well, CW always gives him a down arrow. I don't have specifics - I just have always felt there was a liberal lean to Newsweek. They are happy to cover any "bad news" about Bush, moreso than good. I don't see many articles about how Iraq is so happy to have Freedom and Liberty, and how Halliburton is just misunderstood...that sort of thing.

25. So by "Liberal Lean" you actually mean that Newsweek does a better job
of telling the TRUTH instead of automatically spitting out administration approved bullshit.

THE TRUTH IS NOT A "LIBERAL LEAN" - IT IS THE TRUTH.

Why they are kissing his ass and telling his fairy tales for him on this one I have no idea.

Don't be confused, W is still an black hearted soulless chicken-hawk power drunk monkey with no conscience.

33. Frankly, I don't read it because I see it as part of the corporate media
Right or wrong, that's how I see them. So I have no idea what "CW" means and I honestly don't know what leaning they have.

The most recent thing I've read in Newsweek was back in 2003, and it was pretty much an example of them pounding the wardrum for Bush. I wrote something about it, in fact:

http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/03/02/03_Crank.html

I just went to their website and see that they are, I guess, part of the media conglomerate that owns MSNBC, which confirms for me that they are pushing a corporatist line.

Now, if they're not printing articles about "how Iraq is so happy to have Freedom and Liberty, and how Halliburton is just misunderstood," then maybe I should give them some credit for not being a NewsMax wannabe, but that would be damning with faint praise, imo.

Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 11:11 AM by sparosnare
Fake crying is easy for narcissists - they're good at it. I have no doubt he does get choked up when he meets with families, but it's all done for his benefit, for the camera and the audience.

9. He needs to be crying
One small consolation, for the rest of his life he will have to look in the mirror every morning. He will also have to close them every night.

17. He has no conscience.
Nothing affects him and when he looks in the mirror, he thinks "you da man!". He will never have any regrets or remorse about his decisions. Disgusting, isn't it?

41. all he has to do is think about how he was obliged to miss his nap ...
And presto, instant tears. He can only emote convincingly if he thinks about himself. (I wonder if someone was attempting to tutor him in "Method" acting, and had to face the fact that Bush is a complete narcissist, so it all had to be about HIM?)

He can cry when he needs to. Probably thinks about being shut out of the running for baseball commissioner.

Jeb once publicly broke down. Said he was hurt because black people were being mean to him over the 2000 election fiasco. Pfft, riiight.

OUR UNFEELING PRESIDENT
Bush cannot grieve because he doesn't know what death is
By E.L. DOCTOROW

Editor's note: The article below was written by novelist E.L. Doctorow for The East Hampton Star, and was originally published on Sept 9, 2004. Since that time the number of American war dead in Iraq has risen to more than 1,800.

I fault this president for not knowing what death is. He does not suffer the death of our 21-year-olds who wanted to be what they could be. On the eve of D-Day in 1944 General Eisenhower prayed to God for the lives of the young soldiers he knew were going to die. He knew what death was. Even in a justifiable war, a war not of choice but of necessity, a war of survival, the cost was almost more than Eisenhower could bear.

27. why would crying mean thst he thinks the deaths are worth it?
that's a strange assumption to make. If he does cry wouldn't it be more likely he is thinking about the parents' grief, why on earth would meeting grieving parents confirm that their childrens' deaths are worth it? are you saying he doesn't like the parents, so it's no big deal?

Or maybe if he gets choked up (which I doubt is genuine, but you never know, he may have a conscience) it's because he's ~questioning~ if the deaths are worth it?

39. cause he's not bringing them home
It's convoluted, but if he really, truly, was upset about soldiers dying, but still persisted with the war, then one could assume that deep down, there must be some thought in him that it was important enough to keep going.

I am not defending him, or the war, and not for one second have I ever thought that any human being should get so much as a hangnail over Iraq, whatever the flavor of the week is for attacking that country...

I'm just saying...so maybe he's questioning (more likely faking, or that it's just a fake story altogether), but that questioning is not leading to a decision of "wow, this is f*cked up, better put a stop to it."

44. well, that's probably the last on the list of possibilities
so to immediately assume that, as the OP did, is to see him as a man of conscience and compassion, when everything he does shows otherwise.
we aren't talking about normal human beings here, remember? besides, if he thinks it's worth it despite having to deal with moments of grief, do we know why he thinks it's worth it? for freedom? for money? for power?

If the moron was crying, it was because his handlers were forcing him to meet with those families against his will and he was tearing up over missing his bike ride or nap. Worthless POS doesn't give a rat's ass about anybody's "suffering" but his own.

Plus, LBJ knew firsthand the horrors of war -- he actually served. LBJ asked, very day, to personally review the casualty lists for the Vietnam war. Could you imagine Bush doing that? I'll bet you he couldn't tell you how many casualties we've had in Iraq and that he doesn't want to know...

...I've personally known a few people who could cry at will in order to guilt trip others into doing what they want or getting them to think what they wanted them to think.

It's a mask. Dangerous people.

Bush sheds a few crocodile tears (if he really does cry) because he thinks people will be taken in and then allow him "to go on with my life."
