School bags for Iraq
What do you think of this plan and idea?

< Dear partner in reaching the world for Christ,

Praise God with me. Because thanks to your prayers and gifts, the doors are open to share the love of Christ with the next generation of Iraqis—young boys and girls who are open to new ideas and who are the future leaders of their nation!

Even as I write, our personnel are gearing up to touch the lives of thousands of Iraqi children with Christ's compassion and love. Continuing a strategy first launched last year, their goal is to distribute 100,000 school bags to these little ones, each filled with urgently needed paper, pencils, and other school materials along with an evangelistic children's book. In most cases, they will be distributed inside public schools and offered alongside Arabic Bibles and The Story of Jesus for Children DVDs. In this way, just weeks from now, thousands of future Iraqi leaders will have the opportunity to come to know Christ!

Such an outreach could not have come at a better time. It's been a challenging few months in Iraq as Christian churches have been targeted by bombings and the fighting continues in many places; it's so clear that the Prince of Peace is urgently needed. Also, the new government is still open enough to allow this, hundreds of public schools have already given the go-ahead, and parents are desperate for the help.

You see, Iraq is still facing 50% unemployment. Many parents are struggling just to feed their children. Though they want their little ones to have the best education possible, purchasing even the most basic school supplies is practically impossible.

That's why, when someone steps forward to provide their children with these supplies, their hearts are touched in a special way. Children and parents alike are so thankful and excited for these gifts, and eager to know more about the Source of this show of love!

One staff member tells the story of distributing the school bags, Bibles, and videos at a particular school that had okayed the distribution. Unfortunately, the school just across the street had said no—but that did not stop the children inside! When they saw the staff member pull up and take out a box filled with 250 The Story of Jesus for Children DVDs (a revised version of the original JESUS film perfect for sharing the Gospel with little ones), a small army of them snuck out of their school and raided the box! They soon had taken every single video; the staff member had to return to the office to get more for the original school. >

1. Being done to further evangelical agendas.
Just sounds like way for the fanatics to take advantage of a situation.

2. It's not charity
It's propaganda - er - public relations.

3. I think with this
they themselves aren't going there to preach and the government said it was okay. The kids can always just give the book away or whatever. They're also giving people things they need (are they able to have school?). The kids have the freewill to throw away the books and stuff or not.

4. Something I wonder though
is are they telling the truth about this experience? We know how people like to make things up for their own purposes sometimes. There are Christians in Iraq but I remember reading that when we took out Saddam the Christians were the first group of people to leave.

5. I'm just guessing here but . . .
Maybe the Iraqi children were hoping the the boxes were filled with FOOD! Oh, well, maybe using the evangalist books and Arabic Bibles as kindling will keep them warm on a cold night in Iraq when there's no electricity.
