Did the Soldiers Stop Dying in Iraq...or Has Everybody Gone to Sleep?
I haven't seen a post here in . . . a week or so about the fatalities--and even the last ones were getting farther and farther apart. I watch the news less and less but the bits I do catch don't mention a thing about the fatalities. Has the pointless do-not-call thingamajigga drowned out the more important war news?

What gives?

Read truthout
We're still at about one a day, with ten wounded for every one killed.

2. The reports are still coming in
And the bodies are still being quietly ferried through Dover AFB in the middle of the night. But young men dying for no good reason thousands of miles from home is just such a downer, you know? It makes people feel bad, and then they don't want to go shopping, and Christmas is just around the corner.

So, while the reports continue to get filed, they're tucked away back on page C6, and unless the decedent has some hometown connection, the local news in Des Moines really doesn't care about some kid from McAllen getting his ticket punched. Now this from some pharmaceutical company about a product you can't buy.

3. Media was told that reporting the truth is getting our soldiers killed

So there are many more feel good stories lately covering up whats really happening in Iraq. I suppose that will help things run a little smoother for Junior next selection.

One will quickly notice how unless there is a real death not much of a story is made. My other guess would be that once a soldier is determined to be no longer viable for the operation he his spirited out of the country quickly to avoid being declared another death from his wounds or complications from them.

Mostly this not doing the best job possible in negating complications of such is telling. Putting it simple terms, if you had major injuries would you find it a good ideal for a doctor to bandage you up, and ship you on a plane to the other side of the globe. Being very suspicious of everything the chickenhawks do is the duty of every US citizen.

Number of Wounded in Action on Rise
Iraq Toll Reflects Medical Advances, Resistance Troops Face
By Vernon Loeb
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, September 2, 2003; Page A01

U.S. battlefield casualties in Iraq are increasing dramatically in the face of continued attacks by remnants of Saddam Hussein's military and other forces, with almost 10 American troops a day now being officially declared "wounded in action."

The number of those wounded in action, which totals 1,124 since the war began in March, has grown so large, and attacks have become so commonplace, that U.S. Central Command usually issues news releases listing injuries only when the attacks kill one or more troops. The result is that many injuries go unreported.

The rising number and quickening pace of soldiers being wounded on the battlefield have been overshadowed by the number of troops killed since President Bush declared an end to major combat operations May 1. But alongside those Americans killed in action, an even greater toll of battlefield wounded continues unabated, with an increasing number being injured through small-arms fire, rocket-propelled grenades, remote-controlled mines and what the Pentagon refers to as "improvised explosive devices."

Indeed, the number of troops wounded in action in Iraq is now more than twice that of the Persian Gulf War in 1991. The total increased more than 35 percent in August -- with an average of almost 10 troops a day injured last month.

7. No linazelle, I haven't forgot, nor have
other DUer's, I posted in LBN this morning about the latest fatality, every day I feel lost because I know another soldier is killed or wounded, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it.
All the letters, all the phone calls have fallen on deaf ears-- so far, that doesn't mean I'm going to stop caring, I, we, need someway to make the rest of the country see what we see.
Feel the pain that we feel, we knew from the beginning what was coming down the pike, sometimes being right just sucks, we're out in front of this, give the rest of the nation time to catch up.
Yesterday was a major battle, a few more of those, an investigative reporter with balls to sneak onto Dover air base and get the goods on the bodies coming home, then people will start to wake up.
Hang in there, people care, they will wake up.
