My friend the singer Marcia Ball is going to Crawford today!
For those Cajun Blues/Jazz fans out there, you probably know Marcia Ball well, for those who don't, here's her website - http://www.marciaball.com

Meanwhile, she and her husband Gordon Fowler sent an email out to me this morning letting me know they are going to Crawford today. I talked to her last night, and she was downloading lyrics to anti-war songs. Gordon is taking his guitar, and they plan to sing, and then leave copies of the lyrics to the songs. Cool, eh?

I wish I could be there. I have been debating whether to go with the Pachababies, but when I heard about the nut case rancher Larry Matalin who shot off his shotgun, I wasn't sure if I should go with the kids and put them in a dangerous situation possibly.

Marcia did however tell me that a local rancher, who is related to the nut who shot off his rifle near the camp, has offered his property for Camp Casey and the peace demonstrators...Is this true? Marcia said people are moving today, and now the county cannot hassle them, and they have a large field, not a ditch. She also said that when the call went out for tarps for shade, soldiers from Fort Hood, which is nearby, brought tarps from the military base. I love that!

I'll forward any info from Marcia about their experience in Crawford...Anyone from the DU who is their today, please introduce yourself to Marcia - she's wonderful...

Namaste

Pachamama

7. Yes, Marcia is indeed a fine musician - add her to the list of ones who
think the Shrub is the worst thing that has ever come out of Texas....

She's so funny and I love hearing her stories from Texas from those Texans who can't stand "W"...people like Molly Ivins and even some neighbors in Austin who go under the name of "two unemployed texans opposed to Bush" (or something like that) who make great bumper stickers like "Hee Haw isn't a Foreign Policy"...

3. You know Marcia Ball?
Wow! I love her music. I am so glad the blues world is going to be represented in Crawford.

The DJ on WNIJ's Saturday Blues program from Dekalb, Illinois is a big Marcia Ball fan. He plays several of her songs each week. That is how I became familiar with her music in the first place.

Please tell us what Marcia experiences in Crawford.

5. Yep...she's one of my buddies...comes and visits the Bay Area
and stays locally with another good friend of mine, the artist Linda Bacon http://www.lindabacon.com

Linda and I are talking about coming down to Crawford...as I mentioned in my email above, I was a little wary at first about coming down there because of some of the whackjobs like Rancher Larry who shot off his shotgun the other day and the one who mowed down the crosses of the fallen soldiers. If it was just me, that would be a different story...but with the kids, I just was nervous.

Any Duers who are down there, please let me know what the situation is...Marcia is going to report back to me too and let me know as well.

I will definitely post later tonite or tommorrow what Marcia says about her experience in Crawford.

13. been a fan since 1977
and "Circuit Queen" on Capitol Records, her first album. I saw her first at the Lone Star Cafe in NYC, and her "image" at the time for Capitol was blue jeans and white tailored shirt, if you can believe Hot Tamale Marcia dressed like that!

20. Marcia Ball rocks!
I love how she plays the piano with her legs crossed and keeps that one leg swingin'. I've played piano for many, many years and I have no idea how she does that.
