BAGHDAD, August 16.—A young prisoner in Abu Ghraib, the notorious US army torture center in Iraq, has been killed, as the occupation forces reported today.

The inmate died last night in the military hospital and the causes and motives of his death are under investigation, but the press has stated that he was the fatal victim of an act of violence within the prison.

It is one of the few cases of prisoners murdered in Iraqi jails in the wake of the US invasion of March 2003 to come to light.

The same level of discretion was being maintained over the issue of the torture of detainees by US soldiers until last year, when the media graphically disclosed it with photos taken in Abu Ghrab, west of Baghdad.-more-
