48. Kick, I agree, that is the most powerful editorial cartoon I've ever seen
Since there is such interest in Cindy, It really should be placed there billboard size over the broken Crosses, Stars of David and Crescents.

http://www.conyersblog.us/

Rep. Conyers has a lot of great new stuff even in the day I was away. There are numerous articles and letters to the editor on his main site and action links on his blog including a webform for his goal of sending a thousand letters from us to local newspapers.

An open letter to Kerry and Edwards not to pull out of the Ohio Election Fraud lawsuit. I thought that was over but if we want honest elections we have to keep fighting and Kerry has recently hinted publicly that he might not continue with this important stage of the continuing recount/audit though Conyers says it was never about changing the results.

On Conyers homepage under Downing Street, you can sign his letter to the President for answers to the DSM, this is different than the DSM petition. He is so active during his vacation and the blog has a lot of very informative sites and action steps you can take on most of Bush Crime Families atrocities.

49. The Letters, Webform, Articles, etc are all about Cindy and making sure
the media continues to cover the story of Cindy and the vigils in many cities and the immense interest in what Cindy has to say about this illegal and horrendous war and waging peace with Code Pink, Veterans for Peace and the Gold Star Families for Peace and others.

Afterdowningstreet.com has a media campaign with easy links to most of the Mainstream Media to do in-depth coverage of Cindy and her supporters. http://www.conyersblog.us/

Here dead lie we because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.

51. Great poem...nice find...
Those words sure resonate now.

Here's the last stanza from Wilfred Owen's poem, "Dulce Et Decorum Est." -->

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 05:34 PM by tblue37
I teach both poems in my classes--and a whole bunch of war poems by people who have actually served in wars.

About Owen's poem, BTW: He wrote it partly in reaction against the jingoistic pro-war poetry that was so popular in England during WWI. Tragically, Wilfred Owen wsa killed in that war, two weeks before the Armistice.

38. "The Grave"
The grave that they dug him had flowers
Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colors,
And the brown earth bleached white at the edge of his gravestone.
He's gone.

When the wars of our nation did beckon,
A man barely twenty did answer the calling.
Proud of the trust that he placed in our nation,
He's gone,
But Eternity knows him, and it knows what we've done.

And the rain fell like pearls on the leaves of the flowers
Leaving brown, muddy clay where the earth had been dry.
And deep in the trench he waited for hours,
As he held to his rifle and prayed not to die.

But the silence of night was shattered by fire
As guns and grenades blasted sharp through the air.
And one after another his comrades were slaughtered.
In morgue of Marines, alone standing there.

He crouched ever lower, ever lower with fear.
"They can't let me die! The can't let me die here!
I'll cover myself with the mud and the earth.
I'll cover myself! I know I'm not brave!
The earth! the earth! the earth is my grave."

The grave that they dug him had flowers
Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colors,
And the brown earth bleached white at the edge of his gravestone.
He's gone.

64. I think Dylan said/sung it years ago
I think this sums up my feelings pretty well concerning Dubya.

Masters of War/Bob Dylan

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

73. Remember what Barbara Bush said.
"Why should we hear about body bags and deaths," Barbara Bush said on ABC's "Good Morning America" on March 18, 2003. "Oh, I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

I wonder where gw got his cavalier attitude?
