Poll question: Current DU stance on Iraq
For those advocating "stay until it's fixed", what constitutes fixed? Or is it, like art and pornography, something that one knows when one sees it?

I still see 'we broke it we must fix it' sentiment expressed a lot here so I was wondering how prevalent it was. My personal feeling is it's a way for people to feel the U.S. is doing something "moral" for the Iraqis about Bush's mistake, but I agree with others that it's probably impossible for U.S. troop presence to cause anything but a worsening situation at this point, so they should leave. It is shameful. But staying and killing more Iraqis for this group would be worse IMHO.

I guess for those who advocate "fix it", what if it looks about as bad 2 or 5 years from now with no real progress in sight? Still stay until "fixed"?

How did the reality of post U.S. involvement Vietnam compare to what was claimed would happen there when we left?

6. Used to be a fixer, but as of 11/5/05 I changed my mind.
Nothing gets fixed as long as Dimson is calling the shots. Get our troops out, then incentivize the Iraqi's to get a government in place who can handle the reconstruction. Then we pay for it.

8. What gets me is some VFW members think we can win????????
Last time I was at the VFW a guy I was talking to thought we should play the mean and brutal card. I reminded him of the propaganda of his man * that we were there for the hearts and minds of the Iraqis and he replied that we can't win that way. I told him that there was no way to win and he stared at me in disbelief, Bush might declare it a win somehow, but it would be pure * bull.

12. Ideally, I would like our troops to come home now
But if this isn't going to happen, I would settle for our troops to stop carrying the full load, and for other nations to actually help out...but this is just another dream because our government is run by a bunch of assholes who had to tell the rest of the world to fuck off...so I really don't know right now...

14. Get out now and hope that financial aid will be enough to rebuild
Bushco has made such a mess over there, that it will take many generations to overcome the destruction, massive loss of life, and the tragic future Iraqi's face as result of this illegal war.

15. Turn it over to the UN and help pay for the damage.
Give each Iraqi a cut of the oil profit like Alaska. Sure the UN beings they are humans the UN would rob it blind, but it would still be better.

21. I'll say it again...
All of king george's horses

And all of king george's men

Cannot put humpty-dumpty back together again.

US presence in Iraq will create violence and disruption. We must leave NOW and support (monetarily & diplomatically) the UN in their effort to assist the Iraqis in anything they need.
