And I thought the idea of a female forest supervisor was pretty sweet.
I'll give you a little example that matters only to me.
Home Depot is experimenting with convenience stores on the property. We have built four so far. (When word came out about this, all of us were like "where's ours? We buy enough gas we'd keep it in business.")
One of the financial news services put out a piece about this development, and all of the freeper "analysts" (the word analyst is Latin in origin; it is a contraction of the word "anal"--the end of your digestive system--and "lysis"--to break down. Put it together, and you learn that an "analyst" is an asshole who breaks things.) who commented were really down on it. The general consensus was that since you don't buy home improvement products every day, you won't see Home Depot as a destination stop for gas.
This discounts the fact that about half of all Home Depot's customer base is professionals. We get everything from foundation contractors to roofers--every Home Depot does. And professionals buy our products all the time--many of them come to the store every day. They don't necessarily buy things every day, but they come by to work on bids, get decks planned, or just to drink coffee and shoot the breeze. If you go to Home Depot every day and you need fuel, where are you going to get it? Probably at Home Depot, especially since the convenience stores accept our contractor credit cards.
Right-wing evaluation of HD convenience stores: stupid idea. Jim's evaluation: they better have a LOT of diesel pumps; contractors love diesel pickups and we deal with a lot of contractors. (It will help us too: we rent power equipment that takes gas, we sell power equipment that takes gas, we have the rental truck that takes gas, we have a 40-foot delivery truck that's diesel. It will be cheaper for us to fill those things at wholesale cost instead of retail like we do now.)
And really, think about it: the Right has been wrong on damn near everything. Why can't they be wrong on female rangers...gas at Home Depot...or anything else?
