Unlike the Iraq war protest they hoped to mirror in Texas, supporters of Chico's Camp Casey, on the grounds of a city park near First Street and The Esplanade, aren't rolling out sleeping bags and cooking stoves.
In fact, if they do, they'll probably be arrested.
The protest, in support of Vacaville resident Cindy Sheehan's peace vigil near President George Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch, sprang up Saturday at Children's Playground. At its core are members of Chico's Peace and Justice Center, which protests war in general for an hour each Saturday on downtown street corners.
When members heard about Sheehan's protest, which began Aug. 6 and has attracted hundreds of supporters to Crawford, they decided to establish Camp Casey -- named for Sheehan's son, who was killed in Iraq in April 2004....
