...I'm not seeing, hearing, or reading of any support for Herr Busch in the 7% range. People here have grown much more vocal against the policies of the NeoCon hard-right.

Just curious, but why did you pick out Alabama when freakin' Idaho (23%), freakin' Nebraska (13%), freakin' Texas (11%), and freakin' Utah (19%) are much higher in support of Herr Busch?

...this fall, we have an off-year election where Kilgore (Rep) is running against Kaine (Dem) in what amounts to a referendum on Bush. Governor Mark Warner is very popular here in a traditionally Red State.
