A shitstorm that is...for Shelly Moore Capito...I LOVE IT!

Abuse of Power? Capito to seek pardon for her disgraced father?
Is Congresswoman Capito trying to get a pardon for her father, a convicted felon? Capito needs to tell the public whether she has spoken to anyone in the Bush administration about a pardon for her father. Capito needs to tell the public whether she has used any of her congressional staffers to work on any issue related to pardoning her father.

Capito needs to pledge that she will not seek a pardon for her father nor use her office and staffers to seek that pardon.
As recently as this July 4th, Capito and her father met with George Bush in West Virginia. The fact that the President met with the convicted felon is a strong indication that this pardon is on the table.

Background:

Arch Moore, the disgraced former governer of West Virginia, pleaded guilty in 1990 to a five-count federal indictment charging him with mail fraud, filing false tax returns, extortion and obstruction of justice. He then served thirty-three months in federal prison.

The State of West Virginia also instituted a civil action against the disgraced governor which was then settled in 1996 for $750,000.00. More...no pun intended...

This is going to be a knock down, drag out all the political dead bodies, campaign and the GOP strted the shit slinging...The RNC has been running Anti-Byrd ads nonstop here in WV. I think this little bit of pay-back is funny as Hell! Fighting fire with fire and it's about damned time!

1. If you use electronic voting machines in WV, you better pray for a miracle
It would be a real tragedy to lose Byrd, one of the few Dems with spine and a moral conscience.

If he wins by a huge landslide, maybe even the machines can't cheat that much. That's another possibility.

It's hard to beat the voting machines.

3. WV is one of 25 states requiring a paper trail.
Just FYI.

keeping an eye on his old office! Not that I don't trust Betty Ireland or nothing... :sarcasm: :scared:

8. From what I've heard, she's a straight-shooter.
Dunno for sure, but I have been told she is a fair person and takes her position seriously.

I think the greatest danger is probably that Massey guy,...um,...Blankenship. I read an article last year about how he spends millions to basically "buy" an office by running negative ads (which apparently works extremely well). I got curious about how he could do that and found out there's a really weird law allowing UNLIMITED independent spending by an individual who's not associated with the candidate or campaign (yeah, right, whatever).

I agree with you that smut works here, unfortunately. I'm sure they will smear Byrd via his age and his previous dixiecrat positions decades ago. That's how they win campaigns nowadays: smear the person, avoid the issues.

10. Massey was one of the sources of the lady's war chest...

At least that's what I heard! The Addingtons are active here in WV too. Check out their crap sometime. Biggest Bush donor in 2000 the Addington family. Well rewarded by Bush for the contributions too! They live in KY but they rape the environment here like A. T. Massey does.

2. Capito2006....Is there a motive?
Recently the West Virginia and national press in all shapes and sizes have published a story entitled "Capito Web Site Touts Byrd Instead," or "Byrd Camp Steals Capito's Website!" Apparently this story first spawned when interested parties decided to take a visit to the site capito2006.com. Most individuals would assume that Congresswoman Capito owns the domain, however, surfers were greeted with Senator Byrd's reelection site, byrd2006.com. This has motivated extreme rhetoric by leading Republican operatives in the state, including serious charges that Senator Byrd's reelection committee coordinated the purchasing and redirection of the domain to his campaign site in anticipation for a Capito bid in 2006.

The GOPers whine like little babies when democrats fight back! Their whining is sweet music sometimes! Cry us a river you lying bastards at the DNC!

4. The battle over election fraud is heating on the front burner here...
The wealthy out of state coal companies pretty much bought the secretary of states office last time for a Republican, by dumping huge amounts of money into that campaign, but it looks like they may have been a little too late to cover all the bases.

ELECTION FRAUD TRIAL

snip>

An upcoming election fraud trial could feature testimony from both former U.S, Attorney Kasey Warner and his brother, failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Monty Warner.

Both have been subpoenaed by one of six Lincoln County residents accused of conspiring to buy votes in elections dating back to 1990.

WCHS TV is a Fox affiliate. The story I heard on a less biased local station, reported that one of the Warners had fled the state to avoid testifying in the voter fraud case. I'll post more if I can find the story.

6. The problem is, people still like Moore
My entire family is die-hard Democrats and teacher union members....and they still talk somewhat positively about Moore, at least from his first term of office. My uncle - who I don't think has ever voted for a Repub in his life other than Moore - still says he was the "best friend the teachers ever had."

Hell, our current governor's father was a crook....and a well-loved crook as well.

West Virginia is like Chicago and Louisiana. We don't seem to mind a little fraud in our politicians.

7. "We don't seem to mind a little fraud in our politicians"
And then West Virginians get all pissed off about all the jokes! It's no wonder this state is the poorest state in the union every time a poverty report comes out. No.1. in something anyway... Mountaineers ranked in the 40s nationwide! It don't get any badder than this!

11. I'm just sayin'....
Since I've moved away, I've realized that other states do politics differently. We elect someone...and then never stop electing them. And then we elect their kids. And if they get in trouble, well, shit happens.

13. Slate did a great article on WV prior to the election
They were examining the "swing states" and hit about a theory that I never heard before. Basically, West Virginia is a state filled with veterans and workers who are very used to powerful, distant bosses (coal barons, US Steel, etc). In other words, it's a state with a huge, almost unhealthy respect for authority. It explains why we never vote against an incumbent.
