BTK Killer

<snip>

Kansas Bureau of Investigation special agent Larry Thomas testified that after Rader killed Josephine Otero's parents and brother in 1974, he took the (11 year old ) girl to the basement. Prosecutors projected to a screen Rader's recollection of the exchange he had with Josephine before he killed her.

"What's going to happen to me?" she asks.

Rader: "Well, honey, you're going to be in heaven with the rest of your family."

Rader then hanged the girl and masturbated over her body.

"I remember problems with Josephine because her hair was in the way," Rader told investigators.

<snip>

As much as I loathe the death penalty, I wouldn't mind seeing this guy fry...

7. so penalties for murderers depends on political affiliation?
if you're a registered dem, the court should be more lenient in the fact you murdered people. Only life in prison.

if you're a republican, death.

Tell me how that's not fascism.

You're catholic. You tell us.

Just kidding. Sorta.

That's actually totalitarianism.

9. oh my bad, i got my disgusting ism's mixed up
one of the few aspects of catholicism i agree with is the anti-death penalty stances, as it is nothing but state sanctioned murder.

29. wow, deja vu
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 05:50 PM by leftofthedial
I thought you actually said it was fascist to execute someone because of their political persuasion (a more general statement)

I said that's technically totalitarianism, not fascism (although fascism is one form of totalitarianism). It also might be Soviet "Communism" (state capitalism/one-party totalitarianism) or any other extremely authoritarian political system.

I never called anyone a fascist (at least in this thread).

But if one *were* fascist and that were grounds for one to be executed, would that be fascist of the state? and if so, where would the killing ever stop?

Sorry to be a nitpicker. I think we actually agree.

Personally, though, I *do* believe that the current repuke party in Murka is proto-fascist. They aren't quite bold enough yet to go all the way, but they'd sure like to. After the revolution, we'll hold Nurnberg-style trials After a fiar trial, we'll execute the fascists.

NOW, we can argue. :-)

2. Yo hell with the death penalty
Lock him up in a 6x6 room for the remainder of his life. That ought to be fitting punishment.

3. I would also make an exception in his case but
he won't fry because the death penalty was not an option at the time of his crimes. He can only get life. Maybe someone inside can take care of him though. What a sick, twisted bastard.

But he is a loathesome creature, and deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life.

Why are we having a trial, when he has confessed to all those murders?
This is a waste of time and money. I say throw his ass in prison for life and I mean life.

20. This is a sentencing hearing, not a trial
Like there's a lot of doubt about what sentence he will get.

Due process and all that. He confessed, so the only question is how many life terms he's gonna get and whether anything extra will be tacked on.

24. I don't think so
Apparently there wasn't a death penalty in KS when the crimes were originally committed, and that's what controls. SCOTUS briefly barred the death penalty back in the 1970s.

22. His performance today
is obscene. He is thanking the police he "worked with," the media, etc etc. He is trying to maintain a degree of control, "correcting" some errors that people have made in describing his actions. He is acting like he is on stage, winning an award.
