And, for myself, would have contributed even without the public display that I've supported the site.

However, let's face facts - some people would rather have something shiny that they can show off. It's an ego-stroke as well as a way of wearing their support proudly (at least locally).

I'd expect that all the members with postcounts into 3 digits or more will be contributing if they're financially able to. I was hoping to appeal to those who don't have that much presence here (yet) and hadn't thought about what they could do to contribute.

Rather than jumping so quickly on the offensive, can I make a suggestion? There seems to be a common etiquette of saying "Welcome" to members with low postcounts when they post a response to you. How about we add a new one - if you see someone with a low postcount but they've got a star by their name, why not reply or PM them and thank them for contributing even though they're new here?

I bet that if that got around, we might even get some more folks stepping up and opening their wallets, and, after all, isn't that *really* what we want to have happen?
