Actor Richard Dreyfuss is on board

Actor Richard Dreyfuss holds up a sign at a candlelight vigil in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles on August 17, 2005. Anti-war protesters held candles, sang, and chanted in vigils across the country on Wednesday in support of Cindy Sheehan, who has camped out near President George W. Bush's ranch to urge him to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq, where her son was killed a year ago. Sheehan has become a magnet for anti-war protesters who have crowded around her since her vigil began on August 6 in Crawford, a community of 705 people, where Bush is on a month-long vacation. 24. I ran into to Cromwell last year. What a helluva guy.
I saw him the Progressive Democratic Caucus in Boston during the convention last year. I was at one of the tables on the side of the gym and accidently backed into him. We talked about global warming, Kucinich and "Six Feet Under". He was every inch a gentleman. He was geniune and knew his stuff.

It doesn't surprise me that he's on board.

I didn't know about Dreyfuss, though. Excellent.

Dreyfuss has seen the horrors of war first hand, he worked in a Vietnam Veteran hospital during the 70's.

I love him, always have, always will.

I've never heard anything to connect the two. All those Frenchmen who insisted Dreyfus was guilty even after evidence proved him innocent remind me of the red-staters here. Black is white. Innocence is guilt.

36. I wonder
I wonder now that Cindy has gone to be with her mother if there will be diminished press coverage of the events in Crawford. I am thinking that she was the big "draw" for the media and with her absence this tiny flicker of MSM anti-war coverage will die.

There was a thread yesterday discussing whether some of the big-name Democrats should go to Crawford but I think the general sentiment was that they would draw attention away from Cindy, dilute her message, and so they should stay away.

Perhaps now that Cindy is taking a break, would it be possible to recruit some of these "names" to keep the vigil in the headlines.

I know the other Gold Star moms will be holding the fort so to speak down in Crawford, but Cindy seemed to have the star-power to attract the media. I would hate to lose the momentum.

And this movement is more than just her, and the anti-war movement is now (please god) growing bigger than just her. I agree with all of that 110%.

But Cindy rightfully needs to be with her mom right now for as long as it takes, and I would hate to see us lose this momentum if she doesn't get back to Crawford anytime soon. How can we best sustain and nurture her efforts?

Just trying to brainstorm....

72. Watch Dreyfuss play Rove in John Sayles' "Silver City"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376890/
He was great, so was everything else about this movie. This is, without a doubt, the best, and most important movie of 2004 (as F 9-11 was the best documentary), It is a not-so-thinly disguised satire/expose of the rise of Bush and his neocon cronies.

Watch the making of, and the commentary-on version of the movie. They self-funded this movie (to make sure it was in thearers before the 2004 election), and made it in direct response to the invasion of Iraq. Everyone (including all the actors) "worked for peanuts" - it really was a "labor of love".

Rent it now, and have all your "not-totally-decided/committed" friends and relatives over to watch it.

80. You'll be very disappointed, hon
I know I was...
The flick didn't live up to what it purported.

79.  need some help here in St Petersburg FL
We need some help here in St Petersburg FL, with opinions from DU.

Barricades have been placed on a city sidewalk, to prevent anti-war protesters from crossing.

Democracy for America, the Save America Coalition, St. Pete for Peace, Veterans for Peace and quite honestly, who knows how many other groups, (along with many, many happy individuals), joined in solidarity to re-claim public space.

We are working with the ACLU on an injunction on barricades placed on a city sidewalk, to prevent anti-war protesters from crossing the sidewalk.

The city has denied free speech Zones last year.

I and 5 others were arrested 2 weeks ago (2 of us for standing on the sidewalk)
(see http://stpeteforpeace.org/baywalk.html for the back-story.)

There is a very public survey at the St. Petersburg Times.
Need DU’ers to vote their conscience.

I Have frequently read the DU board but have not posted before and am requesting a thread somewhere to ask for people to answer the answer the survey at
