Help!

I need to mail 4 dozen golf balls to France (don't laugh).
Anyway, I've never mailed anything internationally before--any suggestions from someone on what is the cheapest method of transit, etc?

4. UPS can help you

they will likely require some sort of invoice for the value but whoever - should help you with that. The invoice doesn't mean you are charging the people for them just to set a value for any duty that may be required. Also, they may put an international duty classification on the invoice so customs in France can easily classify them.

Look in the phone book for "Freight Forwarders" or a local customs broker used to clear shipments for importers if UPS won't help. They should be able to tell you what you need or where to go. :)

There may be no duty charged on the other end but golf balls can run 50 bucks a dozen. (if they are going to charge duty over there you can likely prepay it if you don't want the folks in France to pay anything.

France may have a dollar limit before you pay duty. I'd make them as cheap as I could. :) Also, for personal use and this small amount there may be just a form UPS adds to your package bill of lading, but prepared to declare some value is my guess - they should have a scale as they will require a weight of course.

One last thing, if you use someone else who gives you rate to send it and it sounds high be sure to check what UPS says also...

5. I mail things internationally all the time

(selling ebay stuff). The cheapest way is just going to the post office and filling out the form (UPS and FedEx are expensive to go international)

if you just go to the desk with the package they can give you the right slip.

7. USPS is almost always cheaper

The least expensive USPS method is Economy Parcel Post and takes 4-6 weeks. The next best is Airmail Parcel Post, takes 4-6 business days and is a bit more expensive.

Does the post office have special boxes needed for airmail or can you pack them in anything?

10. Pack them in anything.. Go to http://www.usps.com From there

At the top, in the red bar, is "Calculate Postage". You can take it from there.
