Great sympathy here on DU; yes, we need to defend her. But, she carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. It's not enough now anymore to applaud her. It's time to take the responsibility upon ourselves. And that means some hard work, and frankly, it's time to take to the streets, and turn our faces into the GOP media wind that will seek to destroy us, come what may. FIFTY-SIX PERCENT (sorry for the caps, DU) of the American public are fed up with this insane neo-con war. And most haven't (yet) been touched by it. Supporting Cindy is no longer enough. And, yes, that implies responsibility on my part, and I accept that. Do you? Let Cindy, like Rosa Parks, take a break. And let's fight back. Stop the War.

1. I think a million people in the streets of D.C.

for the big demonstration this September (think it's 23rd or 24th)
would send a highly effective message. But there could be demonstrations everywhere that day - demonstrations that simply can't be ignored.

I contacted four Senators today. I will follow up with letters tomorrow to more Congress-critters and to Editors.

Iraq is the sole issue in the upcoming mid-term elections. A majority of the public is with us on Iraq. It is the one thing * does not want to compromise on. We can cream the Repugs in 2006 if we make the election a mandate on Iraq. The only way we win is to take a position that defines Democrats as being substantively different from Repugs.

On the other hand if we take the DLC position, there will be another crushing loss in our future.

5. We pull the load now.

What I think we have in common is a determination to work, day by day, against war, by our own means, and for our own reasons, whether or not there exists a discernable "leader" of the call for peace or not. I think that would do honor to Cindy, and to all of the families who have lost children, sisters, brothers, parents, etc. in this war and the one in Afghanistan, and to all of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who have served and are now serving this country.

To depend on any One voice is to be unaware that we are all interconnected as human beings, everywhere on this globe, and our efforts to end war must be tireless in every state and nation.

Whether we are noticed by those in the Halls of Power in Washington, or in the pages and screens of the Press, our work must continue, just our troops tirelessly labor overseas.

We will stand against all those who labor to attack our efforts for peace or divert public attention to inconsequential matters.

We must organize ourselves, community by community, campus by campus, state by state, nation by nation, and focus on putting an end to war, so that others don't suffer the ultimate grief of loss that Cindy Sheehan and her family suffers. We must build a grassroots structure, working hand in hand with existing organizations, but not allowing pet agendas to dilute our focus.

7. Take to the streets.

Your sentiments are noble, but I believe we must be visible, finally. That means, take to the streets. That's hard work, but we can do it. It's not "whether" we are noticed, it's "when," and it damned well better be soon, because we can't afford a flaccid nobility that makes us feel good. In the words of Archie Bell and the Drells of my generation, you need to Tighten Up. You have the right idea, but it will take action. Thanks to you, you are so right, but your methods too slow. Please understand that I love your sentiments, but we are past gradual organizing.

i'm out in the streets with banners. leafletting here and there each day as well. Going up to people point blank and telling them her story.

Keyboard activism doesn't count, accomplishes nada.

I guess it's one step at a time. We certainly agree that we have to lift this load from this one woman. Boy, do I miss Paul Wellstone. He may have been to Cindy what MLK was to Rosa Parks. And we need some guts out there, we certainly agree on that.
