Rock Concert in Crawford?
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 03:05 AM by snot
Did anything come of this idea (posted by someone else on DU earlier this week)?

It would be AWESOME to have a concert in the stadium on Cindy's last weekend before leaving Crawford -- to help swell the WAVE of enthusiasm riding into D.C.!

I've been a bit out of touch, saw something about Joan Baez going to Crawford. I'd think this would be a great opportunity for some younger bands, too, and I know one or two based in Texas.

Related idea: A really cool, new rock anthem would be great! I keep thinking of songs from the 60's, but I think new "branding" would be helpful, bec. what's happening now is different in some impt. ways.

(Nothing against the 60's--the anti-war and civil rights activism during that period make up the brightest chapter in our nation's history during my lifetime so far).

Everyone, pls let me know whether a Crawford rock concert is in the works and what if any help is needed; and if you like anthem idea, let's work on that!

1. What's happening now...
...is that corporations want to co-opt everything and reduce us to using shorthand for words like "because" and "important".

2. Actually, I've always abbrev'd on my own initiative . . .

as long as I can remember--ca. 3 decades--out of a desire to record or communicate substantive information quickly. If it irritates you for any reason I can make sense of, I'll avoid it.

But are you saying there was a serious initiative toward a concert, and it was defeated by corporations?

3. Move on and ACT put together a great concert in DC last Fall.
Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Fogerty, DMB, James Taylor, John Mellancamp, REM. Maybe if MoveOn would get behind this idea they could get some of these artists to come.

They did some great songs that night: Eddie Vedder sang Masters of War. Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt did I am a Patriot and "There's something happening here", Fogerty did Fortunate Son and they all sang Power to the People. I bet some of these people would come if their schedules permitted and the right person asked.
