Tigers are vile and disgusting creatures

The Labette County Sheriff’s office identified the victim as Haley R. Hilderbrand, 17, of Altamont. A release said Hilderbrand was at the Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary posing for a photo with the 7-year-old tiger, which was being restrained by its handler, when the animal turned and attacked her.

Officers and handlers killed the animal. Emergency personnel were not able to revive Hilderbrand, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have sent the tiger’s body to Kansas State University for dissection.

“This animal had been around people across the country and there’s never been a problem,” Sheriff William Blundell said in a telephone interview.

--------------------------

people, i cannot stress this enough: tigers are killers, they kill for a living, and they cannot be domesticated or tamed, no matter how cute they were as cubs.

for millions of years men feared being eaten by tigers and bears and other monsters, and now we have removed them safely from our homes and fields and forests, eliminating one of our greatest fears and dangers. but now certain folks want wild animals introduced into the west.

i want to see the new movie 'grizzly man' by werner hertzog, a documentary about a documentary film maker obsessed with grizzlies, who eventually eat him and his girlfriend. hertzog says his point was to show that many people think of wild carnivores as kindred spirits or equals. but i won't get anywhere near a grizzly if i can help it.

i heard that there are about 10,000 pet lions, tigers and panthers in america. hard to believe huh?

I'm not certain this qualifies for the award, yet.

7. I wouldn't say vile or disgusting necessarily......
but their nature is to hunt and to kill. They should be respected. It is foolish to try to domesticate an animal like that. It just wasn't meant to happen. The surest way to get eaten is to disrespect the laws of nature and try to keep a born killer as a pet. Tigers are lethal killers, they are meant to do it. Sooner or later they will.

Makes me wonder how fucking dumb people are. I feel bad for that girl. Whoever set that up and allowed that shoot to take place like that should be shot. That's a sad, sad story.

Mankind is just another step closer to bringing the true king of beasts existence to an end forever. 21. exterminate tigers, sharks, mosquitoes etc
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 06:55 AM by oscar111
carnivores are not wanted by those who wish to reduce suffering.

save a few for zoos , for study.
Feed them only ceral chow, like Ken-el-ration.

otherwise, protect the wildebeasts and Bambi.

PS i am really repelled by those who keep pet snakes and feed them live food. Disgusting.

as to mosquitoes.. they are pure pests, like ticks, flies, fleas.
They carry disease. Exterminate them.. research is now going on for some promising ways. Doubt it not.

When a niche in nature is made vacant, others will fill it in. The balance of nature will re-balance. Always has. Just do it slow, watching for keystone species.

sadly, wild tigers and flies cannot do that.. tho zoo specimens could. Save the newly veggie specimens.

humans who still eat meat are a difficult case. Have to persuade them where possible. No extermination planned LOL.

just because you say so?

How about this: you go fuck yourself up the ass with 10 pounds of poison ivy. It'll be quicker and easier then trying to exterminate the entire population of predators from the planet, let alone trying to live on the planet should you, by some miraculous evil, succeed.

41. So, let me get this straight...
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 05:47 PM by antigone382
...you want to kill all the world's naturally occuring omnivores and carnivores, to prevent them from killing other animals, who instead will become enormously overpopulated, at which point they will die either quickly at the hands of humans who want to control the population, or slowly of starvation, disease, etc, in addition to probably driving out other species that compete for the same resources, and decimating our plantlife. What about the plants, anyway? Doesn't their suffering count for something? Maybe we should just eliminate all living things except for the prehistoric bacteria that feed on inorganic material.

You also say this:

"When a niche in nature is made vacant, others will fill it in. The balance of nature will re-balance."

So basically, we'll be exterminating all carnivorous/omnivorous species, only to have other species evolve and fill the niche.

I appreciate your desire to create a world without suffering, but the means that you propose are biologically and economically impractical (we'd never have the resources or TIME to eliminate every single meat-eating species on the planet.

Nature has its own balance--sometimes kind, sometimes cruel--and the less we interfere with that balance, the better. In fact, we should be focusing on ways to fit our own existence into that balance, rather than trying to restructure the natural world according to some misguided human desire for animal benevolence.

ON edit, one more question: I've been out in the wild, watching mustangs, bison, mule deer and other herbivores compete for mates and grazing ground. They often fight each other with merciless brutality, sometimes to the death.
they will kill a youngster of both other species and even their own, if it wanders in their path in search of its mother. They would also easily kill a human, even a nice, vegetarian one, if they deemed him/her a threat. Should these creatures be subject to your proposal as well?

30. I take issue with the vile and disgustingbut on the whole you're right
We forget that an animal is an animal and if it feels threatened it will defend itself. This goes for both wild and domestic animals--how often do you read of people mauled by supposedly gentle dogs or trampled by panicked horses?

Tigers are large predators. Humans are part of their natural diet. Yes, they can be trained to respond to cues and may even show affection for their handlers but if someone or something sets off its defensive or hunting instincts, anyone in the way is in serious danger and it's going to end up badly--ask Roy of Siegfried and Roy--who by the way still owns the tiger that mauled him, he realizes that the animal was frightened and acting on instinct when it grabbed him. You can't blame a tiger for being a tiger.

If you're going to be around an animal that is capable of killing you, you have to understand that you are taking a risk. You minimize the risk as best you can with good training and common sense but it's always there and if you're working with such an animal among members of the public who don't understand how to avoid setting off the animal's defensive instincts or don't realize what destructive power a large predator has, you are flirting with diseaster.

33. I agree people shouldn't act like tigers are some sort of cute pet...
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 07:37 AM by Crankie Avalon
...we had a fool that made the news here in New York a few months ago for keeping a "pet" tiger in his apartment. Fortunately, no one was hurt before it was taken away.

However, it might be a little harsh to call a tiger "vile and disgusting." It seems like a beautiful animal to me, just one I would never try to get close to or "befriend."

As for "exterminating" tigers...when they are not dragged out of their habitat (by us, let's remember) they are not an undue threat to humanity.

We humans are just another species of animal, ourselves. We hunt animals to near extinction for their ivory, fur, and the like, but do we really have the right to exterminate any species of animal (particularly when it's not in answer to a question of our species's survival)? Were we the ones who first put them on this earth? Who are we to decide which animals should or should not be allowed to exist? That's not our call to make.

I think they are sublime and beautiful, about as perfect as anything you will ever see.

They are also predators. Extreme caution is warranted in their presence, and they should never be made to wear a chain and endure human pawing.

But they are about as beautiful as anything that has ever walked this earth.

45. Who has done more to kill humans, tigers or humans?
I think it likely that you could weigh the entire toll of human life taken by tigers, leopards, and every other apex predator over the last 40,000 years against the various forms of homocide (wars, murders, ethnic cleansings, etc.) from the 20th century alone and find that nature's predators come in a distant second by at least two orders of magnitude to our recent senseless killings of our own sad species. With a few notable exceptions, it's not like we're even interested in eating the corpses. At least the beasts of nature have that much justification for their actions.
