I get super-pissed at the gas station when people aren't going in and out efficiently. Net effect of this: lots of fights at service stations.

But "we" all ain't gonna do it, and if some jerk-off is checking his fuses and causing a delay at the pump, the steam would be coming out of my ears and my hands would be forming into fists. I don't drive out o th gas station to spend a lot of time. In and out, thanks. This is a brain dead idea, and will do more to piss people off than the damn fuel prices.

9. It would be a lot more effective to reduce consumption

1. Carpool when possible, both for commuting and for errands. Shop with a friend.

2. Consolidate trips to do more things in fewer trips, especially when stops are close together and distances larger.

3. If you have a choice of vehicles, drive the more fuel efficient one when possible.

The ones that will be hurt by this, the retail outlets, can't do a damn thing about the price. In fact their profit margin on gas is abysmally small, like 1 cent per gallon. In addition, such an action as this ultimately benefits the oil companies, for people will be burning even more gas simply sitting and waiting for pumps to free up. And the large oil companies, well they'll just sit back and laugh, for they know full well that they've got the driving public over the proverbial (oil) barrel.

Rather than silly and ultimately counterproductive protests like this, we would be better served by simply reducing our consumption levels and going through withdrawl from our national oil addiction. Start using mass transit or a bike for your commute. Car pool with others. Make your home as energy efficient as possible. Invest in energy alternatives, such as wood stoves, solar panels, and if you have the space(aprox. 1/4 acre) wind turbines. Buy either hybrids or if you have a place to make biodiesel, diesel vehicles.

Yes, these measures are going to be painful and costly in the short run. But we as a nation have to start thinking long term. Corporate America and our government certainly won't, so it is up to us, the citizen and consumer to do so. If we implement these and other energy solutions, we can kick our oil habit, and kick Big Oil to the curb in the process.
