This REALLY REALLY pissed me off - about gas prices
I went to my first graders back to school night yesterday and the teacher said the kids won't be taking as many field trips because of high gas prices. I live in Ogden, UT about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, our town doesn't have much in the way of cultural things, museums etc. They used to take the kids to SLC to the Children's Museum and different events down in the big city. Not anymore due to the greed of the oil companies and OPEC. It is effecting even the littlest members of our society now.

1. The oil companies should donate some of their profits for
school field trips, since they have so much money that they are actually embarrassed about it. :eyes:

3. Credit the greed to the auto manufacturers/Bush admin. too.
Remeber, for decades we in the US paid about 1/3 of what Europeans were paying for gasoline. The ever increasing demand allows Big Oil to keep charging us more. If Bush had offered tax incentives and govt. funds to develop alternate fuel sources for all purposes, and particularly powering autos/busses and trucks, we wouldn't consume so much oil and our transportation costs would be far less. My daughter has driven a Prius for several years and it's a great car - plenty of pickup/acceleration for highway driving. She has to fill it up with gas no more than once a month, and she does a lot of driving with her job.
It's not just the kids' field trips - it's the cost to the school districts to get the kids to school, and the increased costs of food because of trucking expenses going up. Fuel costs add to our costs all across the economy.

6. Gas prices piss me off too...
One indicator that it's getting REALLY bad is when the price of gasoline interferes with education! This is sad, sad, sad.

7. I'm sorry but that's just stupid. How about taking up a collection
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 10:36 AM by kysrsoze
from parents for a transportation fund? My daughter's school collects from parents for entrance and food. Actually, when you think about it, even that is ridiculous. Suppose the bus gets 8mpg. That's a 10-gallon round trip. Assume the gas price differential is what, $1.00? So that equals 10 bucks a busload. I would bitch!
