We need a new movement to rally behind
The RW'ers have Dominionism, the 'christian' Right (which is actually watered down Dominionism), Neo-Conservatism, Traditionalism, etc.

What do we have?

Liberalism is a dirty word, Progressivism hasn't quite caught on.

We need a movement.

May I suggest something that personifies the Left perfectly?

Pluralism.

"In the social sciences, pluralism is a framework of interaction in which groups show sufficient respect and tolerance of each other, that they fruitfully coexist and interact without conflict or assimilation.

Pluralism is arguably one of the most important features of modern societies and social groups, and may be a key driver of progress in science, society and economic development.

In an authoritarian or oligarchic society, power is concentrated and decisions are made by few members. By contrast, in a pluralistic society, power and decision-making (and the ownership of the results of exercising power) are more diffused. It is believed that this results in more widespread participation and a greater feeling of commitment from society members, and therefore better outcomes. Examples of groups and situations where pluralism is important are: a firm, a political body and an economy, the scientific community.

It can be argued that the pluralistic nature of the scientific process is a major factor in the rapid growth of knowledge. In turn, knowledge growth arguably leads to increased human welfare, due to, for example, greater productivity and economic growth and better medical technology."

If we want to save our nation and our world, then Pluralism may be the answer.

3. We're Home
The place where you return when you find that the outside is not what it was advertised to be. The place where you are loved unconditionally. The haven of security. Democrats =Home.

4. The problem is that you can't sell it to the masses ...
the ones who need it most. Because it's too diffuse and complex to actually contemplate tolerating the Other. It's much easier and more immediate to fear the Other, which is the goal not only of this warmongering administration, but also the advertising executives and Hollywood moguls.

5. High Oil Prices Will Keep The Anti-War Movement Going
I think once a majority of Americans learn of the true costs of the war, they will start to demand the Bush Administration to come up with a timetable for full withdrawl.

The reason the American public hasn't cared is because the Bush Administration hasn't asked them to sacrifice anything (like in WWII). And for the last two years, the press have talked about how many billions of dollars the US is spending every year in Iraq, but in a passive sense. The factor that may push Americans over the edge is the price of crude oil.

Even though there are many other reasons why crude oil has hit $65 a barrel, many Americans really don't care about China or India's growing energy usage. They were told that after Saddam was overthrown, the price of oil would hit $20. It's two years later and the opposite has happened. Americans are already starting to feel the crimp in their wallets from rising oil prices. And they're going to demand the Bush Administration pull troops out of Iraq if oil prices rise too high for their liking.

6. Exactly
We don't need a slogan. We need a forward looking energy policy. It's a patriotic, pro-environmental, good economic message, and one that everyone in the party can agree on.

8. Pluralism = More Than One = Paganism
No offense to all my fellow Pagans on the board. Pluralism is already a very dirty word for most fundamentalist Christians. Sorry.

something that indicates some sort of return to sanity and common sense.

10. My teen aged daughter calls us the "factuals"
We are people who search for facts. Then we use our own logic on how to digest and understand those facts. We believe in the truth and will never settle for lies, especially from our government where we need it the most.

11. Liberalism is only a dirty word because we have let the right wing
make it dirty.
We need to stand up and say I am a Liberal and I am proud to be a Liberal.
Then say what is wrong with you?

12. Try "Restoring Democracy" We don't have one now.
There's no better movement than that. If you're just looking for a word to represent liberals or progressives better

A Voter-Verified Paper Ballot and REQUIRED AUDITS for all elections.

13. We have one..
The anti-war movement. We cannot measure the impact by the numbers that march or protest. We cannot know how deep the message goes by looking at the MSM or the mainstream politicians. However, we do know that most people disapprove of this war by the most recent polls. That is a good sign for us.

14. How about "Integrity"?
As soon as we can throw off the shackles of the DLC and focus on putting in candidates that don't have problems with hypocrisy, I think that is what the voting public is sorely looking for. Someone who they can trust! That is at the fundamental core of why voters in both parties are frustrated with our government today.

If we even throw out our own when we find out they've been disengenuous with us about their motivations, and if we can at some point get in some *real* campaign finance reform in (like "clean elections" reforms that have already worked in Arizona and in Maine), that is how we get the vast number of disaffected voters in the middle.
