Salon.com says anti war movement was "dominated by lefties" before Cindy
This is the same shit they used to say about the anti Iraq war protests until they had to admit the truth. No subscription for me.

<snip>

After Cindy Sheehan

The antiwar movement was dominated by lefties and ineffective -- until a grieving mother from California became its symbol. With Middle America now asking the same angry questions she is, will the movement finally take off?

1. I'm not a fan of Farhad Manjoo
But please, this is true. "Hey-hey ho-ho" simply doesn't convince anyone; it's just group self-expression. Which is fine, but it's not the same as effective political action. This is the mistake the left has been making since the 60s.

3. Thank God for the lefties
There should be more...and there are, if they weren't being bullied by the right. I have two wings, since I like to fly, but as the right wing begins to don its brown shirts, I'm very pleased to see a resurgence of the left in this country. The Che Guevara shirts on teenagers make my heart sing.

2. so fffing WHAT!
anybody looked around and noticed the fact that our entire government/media oligarchy is controlled by FAR FAR FAR rightwing maniacs?

that bit of "bad PR," which is the implication of the left wing peaceniks certainly has had no effect on the fascist's rise to power

if they're the only ones with the guts to speak up, so WHAT if some of them "go too far"

better that than not going anywhere at all

5. trouble is that it keeps out RAW
RAW is a very small group with only about 8 members so far. It is Republicans Against War. Especially in a state like Kansas you want to include all potential members of RAW in your protest. I went to the protest in Lawrence, Ks and it seemed like about 80% of the signs were protesting Bush. "A village in Texas is missing its idiot" "War begins with Dubya" etc.

Okay, yes I do hate Bush, but let's not put the cart before the horse (unless we are going down a very steep hill). Think policy. We hate Bush because we hate his policies - his unnecessary wars, his tax cuts for the rich, his healthy forests for the loggers, his clear skies for the polluters, his energy bill for the oil companies, etc. "Bush is an idiot" is not as good a message as "this policy is idiotic". The first message just makes our group smaller and less relevant. As a group of people who won't vote for him anyway, why should he listen to us? And how does hatred, name-calling, and mockery convince Bush supporters to change their minds?
