Important distinctions

I was over surfing Yahoo and one post made me consider a few things and post my own rebuttal.

The poster was attempting to tie public grieving and mourning with demoralizing troops - and embarrassing them. They went on to say that the troops are fighting for the ideals of America and we should support them.....blah, blah, blah. They fight for our freedom, etc.

And then it hit me......

We can applaud and support the troops. We can verify that the fact that they(the troops) took an oath and are upholding that oath is in fact a noble deed.....but the war is not. I reminded the individual that Iraq never attacked America and never even threatened to attack America - and what the US troops were in fact fighting for was for multinational corporations to gain access to resources and a market that had been denied them before. I wrote that I salute the troops for the job they are doing, but I will never allow this administration to hide behind the troops courage and sacrifice for foggy reasons and while Halliburton practically drowns in a sea of profits.

Honoring and saluting the troops does not mean we uphold the justifications for this war. It is a seperate matter that the GOP continually hide behind the courage of the US soldier. They did what was asked. I do not blame them for that. But I will not salute the war. I will not congratulate those who led the nation to war over lies, misstatements, innuendoes and misconceptions. Good men and women are dying so that Iraq can become a foundation for multinational corporations. Read the decrees Paul Bremer instituted before he left.


After I posted the message, I was surprised that a conservative applauded me for my ramblings.......yes - a conservative!
