Question about Lance Armstrong ?
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 01:40 PM by DURHAM D
I thought he was coming Thursday - now it looks like he is coming on the weekend.

Post from Jaysunb - Update from Crawford this am

"There are celebrities scheduled to arrive here this weekend beside Lance Armstrong; unfortunately, I am not at liberty to say who they are"

My question ? - Does Lance plan to visit Camp Casey ?

And further - and for me even more important: Is Sheryl Crow coming with him ? Is Sheryl going to perform ?

Edit - This is how rumors get started.

2. You mean, Lance, I play a Democrat on TV republican, Armstrong?
If offered an "audience" (who is he the freakin pope?) with the moron* I would turn it down, not only would I turn it down, I would turn it down loudly!

The only pres I had ever wanted to meet was Carter, and maybe Clinton, the rest are shills.

Now if I was asked to meet Nelson Mandela, now that would be something!

3. I gather you don't like Lance but he has made some
comments about the war that don't follow the Bush way of thinking? I was just sort of wondering if we know why the delay in his arrival or if there is actually a problem developing.

8. Good lord no.
Frankly I have no idea what the first poster was saying so I could not respond.

Lance has acknowledged that they have different political views on some issues but agree on the war.

6. The greatest endurance athlete ever, and you're worried about his politics
As if that were the measure of the man.

C'mon, gimme a break. He's essentially apolitical, probably a center-left dem. I consider the other 99.9% of his life to be the important part.

Careful. Politics is a lens that brings focus to what we see, but we gain this focus at the expense of a wider field of view.

These are my opinions, naturally.

Peace.

9. Very well-said
or written, as it were.

Not everything is political - despite what some people think. I don't care if Lance is a communist or a nazi - it has nothing to do with his accomplishments.

10. Thanks - I agree.
We have this weird thing in this country with trying to make athletes more than just athletes.

11. I agree, but...
Since it's been floated that he may run for office I have taken a harder look at his politics.
And frankly, he strikes me as a lieberman type. Playing to the republicans and giving lip service to the Democrats.

4. Oh, gawd. I can see it now.
Five hundred posts per hour from irate DUers screaming "Traitor!" and "Whore!" if Armstrong so much as cracks a smile around Bush.

Since they (Armstrong and Crow) are reputed to be fairly active in opposing the war, you don't think they might try to persuade Bush to walk the "Christian Walk" of peace, do you? Or maybe even arrange a meeting with Ms. Sheehan, if her mother is doing well enough to allow her to return to Camp Casey?

Remember how pissed-off people were with Paul "Bono" Hewson when he lobbied Team Bush for a more progressive stance toward Africa? (And I use his full name because when he's at the UN, he won't be going by the name "Secretary-General Bono".) His seduction worked to perfection, and action on the African crises proceeded unimpeded, forthwith.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that glare of celebrity from Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow will induce Mr. Bush to strive to follow the example of Jesus, and not Dick.

5. Maybe Bush will un-invite Lance stating that
"He has to spend more time with his family".
