Most people probably didn't pay much attention to the story. After all, it was buried on Page 22A of the Aug. 7 Mobile Register.
Too bad, because it's the kind of story to which we all should be paying attention these days. It's about a "whistle blower" named Bunnatine Greenhouse, who works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ("Whistle-blower fights for job").
Highly qualified, with three master's degrees and more than 20 years of contracting experience both in private industry and the military, Ms. Greenhouse knows what she is doing. Her job, mandated by Congress, is "to get the best quality at the cheapest price from the most qualified supplier."
However, because she has complained about "improper action that favored Halliburton and its subsidiary Kellog, Brown and Root's interests," she is now in danger of losing that job. Over her objections, KBR was awarded three multi-billion-dollar war-related contracts, two of them without competitive bidding.....MORE
