WTF with the "strokes" all of a sudden?
Coretta Scott King, Cindy Sheehan's mother, and now, Harry Reid?

Strokes are not an epidemic, folks . . .

1. Harry Reid? Link please.
All three of these people are in the right age group for having a stroke, and cardiopulmonary disease *is* an epidemic in the US.

9. Reid's stroke was light
The story is on the DU homepage - it says he is feeling fine now.

3. Whoa. Harry Reid too?
I've heard everything comes in threes, but this is ridiculous. I hope they will all be okay.

7. stroke is very very common in hot weather & in older people
don't see the conspiracy here

stroke is an epidemic that has bedeviled us for many decades, ever since people started living into their 60s, 70s, & older

10. Some stroke info
A stroke is the third leading cause of death in the US. It is an illness of sudden onset.
Age of over 55 years is the single most important risk factor for stroke worldwide.
Men are of greater risk than women.
The risk of disability and death from stroke in blacks is more than twice in that of whites.
The risk of stroke for someone who has already had one is many times that of someone who hasn't.. Risk of recurrent stroke is highest within the first 30 days after a stroke.

The good news is that treatment for stroke exists (if you fit the criteria)IF AND ONLY IF you get treatment within the first 3 hours.

I think we can take our tinfoil hats off on this one.:)
But keep all of these people in your prayers as they aren't out of the woods yet, even though they may seem to be recovering.

12. Maybe it's the heat from summer. It might raise BP. I dunno really,
but it's a thought. My husband had a stroke from working in the heat. Just pushing himself a little too hard. It wasn't a heat stroke either.

14. Sure.
Anything that exacerbates a condition that already exists (diagnosed or not) would certainly be a factor.

13. I can come up with some tin-foil hatters, but I just think it's weird that
three fairly big names (Sheehan's mother is kinda big right now due to the exposure) come so close together . . .

16. I'll offer my theory..not that I really buy it, but this administration
has me so paranoid and polarized that I immediately become suspicious of 'coincidences.' I want to know if they had Republican physicians! I know, ridiculous thought, but they can diagnose anything they want, based on symptoms. Heart arrhythmias leave no trace; ergo the word transient.

Coretta Scott King was one of the notables that verbally supported Cindy, and I'm sure that Reid did. Suppose they all go to their docs for checkups or other unrelated illnesses(the differential diagnosis for 'dizzines' as Reid complained of is HUGE!) But stroke sounds very serious, and frequently is. It sounds as if he had a minor TIA, or transient ischemic attack, which could have originated in the heart or in the vessels of the brain. A stroke is a diagnosis that induces fright in even healthy people, and could be damaging politically.

I hope that you don't really think I believe this...but it's such a strange coincidence, and the media is playing it up so much...
