OK before you read any further please take a short peek at
my 999th post here.Notice the challenge I am presented with in post #7 by FLVegan.
I ask you, could I turn that down? I have no idea if this is DU historic, after all, I’ve less than 1001 posts! How would I know!? I will make a few modifications though. I’m going to shoot for exactly? 1000 words in this 1000th post and still include, as best I can the above topics. I will address them in order.
#1. Crawford HO! Seeking hookup with stranger. Wait that doesn't sound right.
Some thoughts on whores and Crawford. We all know a whore allows themselves to be violated in exchange for sustenance, power or coin. I submit Larry Mattlage. Larry has for some time now made money from media outlets who want to shoot close to the boy’s ranch, and yet this same cantankerous ‘ol coot has time and again complained about the fuss and bother the boy brings to the neighborhood. What gives Larry? We’ll be sure to let you know when we have another prayer service; please do bring your shotgun, truck and “beer”. Other names come to mind. Condi, Laura, Tony Blair, Vicente Fox, has McCain ever been to the ranch?
#2. Use #1000 to find a Camp Casey buddy! Cindy needs our support!
Much of this was explained in the intro. I am really flexible about my travel dates as I do eBay and freelance photography for a living, so my family can cover. I’m an almost absurdly accommodating roommate. Dogs, cats, kids, partners, snoring, I don’t really care. You (all) take your bed, I’ll have mine and as long as I can get one shower a day, life is good. I would love any opportunity to meet DUer’s united in the cause of supporting Cindy and her goal to save other mothers from the nightmare of that knock on the door, no matter where their politics may lie.
#3. Start a PETA thread, those are great fun for everybody.
I could easily blow 1000 words here but I’ll try to provide the short version. I think some people here are quick to use PETA as a means of showing that they are “good” liberals, not “crazy” liberals. Some make it a point to ignore the CENTRAL MESSAGE of PETA which is expanding the notion of compassion to include all the earth’s creatures and to promote the benefits of a plant based diet to the environment, and human health. It’s so much easier to pick the nits of controversy, isn’t it? As a card carrying member, I have mixed feelings about the more controversial stuff, but I will say this – you cannot argue with the results. PETA gets results. More compassion in the world – it’s a good thing.
#4 Write an essay on all that is good and right about DU.
OK, this would honestly require a 10,000 word essay to do proper justice. This community, as real as anything you could ever locate with a map, has a power that surprises itself on the very BEST of occasions. Andy, Cindy, soldier baskets, blood drives, homeless and the list goes on. The best thing about DU is that we CARE. Some people told us recently that they DON’T care. I know from what I have seen here, we are much better than that. Everyday on DU I see love. Everyday on DU I hear a worthwhile call to action. Every hour on DU I learn more than I could in a hundred spent watching the empty suits and hairdo’s cluttering up my television. I am truly grateful for this place, and all of you.
#5 Write an essay on what is wrong and pointless about DU. This is easy! Start out by realizing that damn near EVERYBODY except for the lurking freee-Pricks here are ON YOUR SIDE in general. Have you treated all of your fellow DU’ers like valued members of your community? I haven’t. I’m going to work on fixing that. If we don’t find a way to engage in POSITIVE debate, supporting each other while engaging in lively debate, what right do we have to expect that of our nation as a whole? All of this truly is pointless if we can’t translate it to the real world.
#5. I have 14,000 posts, your “milestone” is humorously insignificant to me. Oh Yeah?........... A POX on your 15,000 post then. May it sink like Hiraldo Rivera’s career.
#6. Go buy a bottle ufff Rummmmm and give us a new tinfoil story….
How about some vintage tinfoil stories? What follows is true. In 1985 I was engaged to an immature male whose best friend lived under an overpass and less than a throwing distance to the railroad. He held no bank account and refused to shop where laser scanners would read the bar codes of his merchandise. He wouldn't’t buy a television that was cable ready. He talked about plans to put tracking devices in cash (magnetic strips) and a steady erosion of the constitution from the top down via the Justice Department. He warned that cash and coin would become passé or even illegal, and spoke at length about how corporations were swift becoming both the government and the law. He was ex-army. What was his specialty? Surveillance of course. I thought he was crazy. He did in fact, kill himself. How much of what he said has come to pass? How much will?
#7. You don’t really HAVE 999 posts – the numbers, they LIE.
You know, I think sometimes people forget the fact that we are at war. We’re at war – against the numbers. They’re everywhere, see? But we’ve got them on the run. The numbers are in they’re last throes. The numbers – they hate us for our freedoms. The internets have become infected with numbers. As I conclude this; my 1000th post I implore you remain ever vigilant against the dastardly numbers.
