1. Well, Lord knows I don't want this to happen, but if gas keeps going

up like they report to possibly $5.00 a gallon, I believe the truckers are going to park their trucks and NOTHING is going to get moved to where it needs to be. Maybe then Bush will do something about it.

The thing is we are not short on gas or oil. We just don't have up-to-date refineries nor do we have very many of them (per the news).

Doesn't make sense to me at all.

Where is all the oil from Iraq going? They have all the refineries over there (built by US companies with US dollars and probably for mostly US company profits).

When the truckers start parking their trucks, then maybe something will be done.

2. Diesel in California is at or over $3.00/Gallon. They will have to charge

more to haul freight, no matter what goes down. This country depends on trucks and rail for our goods and locomotives use the same diesel that trucks do as well.

Truckers have protested thier working conditions for years, but for the most part only Teamster truckers work at a safe rate and make a decent living these days.

Most drivers are not members of a union like the Teamsters, so have little say in this whole affair about hours of service.

Get ready for some real hard times if this fuel price fiasco continues...

3. One of our neighbors is a long-haul driver (I think he goes eastcoast `

to westcoast once a week and then he is home two days with his family. How he gets there and back in five days is beyond me because he owns his own truck (or in the process of paying for his own truck) and then he will contract it out for the long hauls. He may have a driving partner that he picks up along the way. If he doesn't, he must get very little sleep.

We live were Interstate 77 meets up with Interstate 81. The roads are so jammed on the Interstate it is ridiculous. It is mostly trucks; however, most of them just use the transition of 81 for 9 miles then get back on 77 East.

We are surrounded with nothing but truck stops. We live in a small town where the majority of people are retired and want to keep our town preserved as one of the original, historical Main-Street Town. We have a lot of of Founding They want the truck stops because it provides minimum wage money for those uneducated and no longer gives those on welfare an excuse for not working. Basically, they want people to stop by, drive through and spend a little money in a resteraunt, and then leave after one night if they get a hotel or motel. WE are just a stop and shop kind of town. I use to work at a hospital as a medical transcriptionist. They brought in a lady who had gotten sick and passed out. Once she got here, she told the doctor she was a prostitute and was HIV positive, had herpes and Hepatitis III. She had no place to live and hadn't eaten in days.

Now this is the good part. The doctors told her they needed to admit her for a day or two. of course, she had no insurance. She would be fed as she was malnourished as well as rehydrated. She claimed she only had the clothes on her back and had not bathed for weeks. The ER doc and the admitting physician later dictated that after a 2-day admission, the patient was no longer dehydrated and well enough to be discharged and travel. She had showered both days she was there. They also dictated that they nor the hospital would charge her for any of the services as long as she left with the Sheriff's Deputy to the bus station and the hospital would pay for a ticket whereever she wanted to go. They also had gotten her a small bag with some Goodwill clothes as well as giving her $100.00 in cash. The dictation ended with the physician reporting that the Deputy had called them to assure them she had gotton on a bus and had requested a ticket for New York.

It was nice what they did to take care of her for no charge; however, they didn't do it out of the kindness of their hearts. They wanted this lady out of town ASAP.

4. Sad story, but such is life in BushAmerica.The trucker you mention

has to abide by a set of laws that allow him to only drive 11 hours per day, with 10 hours sleeping time per day between shifts.

If he has another driver with him, they can split the load and keep the truck rolling 24 hours a day, minus fuel stops, if they do thier logs correctly.

Bush was to allow drivers to drive 16 hours per day for at least two days per week. No way !!!
