Does anyone remember RICO?
RICO was supposed to be a huge violation of search and seizure, where property could be seized on a mere suspicion and not returned even if the suspect were acquitted.

Where did the outrage go?

1. It helped to break the mob to some extent
People saw the results and liked it.

5. I beg to differ
The reports of innocent people getting their cars snatched and sold off were rampant. In fact, my mom's car was seized in such a manner, though it was returned after some very long and expensive lawsuit to recover it (the lawsuit to recover it was bankrolled by the defendent).

Interestingly, my sister's sound bite on Hard Copy about the incident was kept short enough to omit any "unpleasant facts."

9. You are referring to seizures not RICO... If your mother had been
charged under RICO she would probably be in prison.

14. Well seizures were around before RICO but I agree with the problems
of seizures. I have helped seize assest. Heck, I have done the paper work. The problem with seizure laws is your basicly guilty until proven innocent.

7. I was mostly concerned about the property seizure aspects of it
Particularly the bit where property was considered a "conspirator" in crimes and able to be seized and sold by police regardless of the guilt or innocence of the accused.
