More of a "huh, isn't that interesting" than a "here's why your prices might be going up" piece.

They will never come out and actually blame Bush.

5. Labor Day is coming

Gas prices will subside, the kids will all be back in school, businesses will be back to 100% as vacations end, and the hot weather will be over. People will have more money to spend since energy usage will be lower. As Christmas season rolls in, people will feel a little more optimistic and spend more heavily.

Then, as the first of the winter snowstorms get going, gasoline prices will increase again, heating fuel will double in price, and by this time, food prices will be establishing their own increases.

It will be a long winter.

8. That just might be the case

After the first week of November 2006, the GOP will have a completely free hand unless we can vote a significant number of Democrats into office. We'll also be another year closer to the day when oil becomes too expensive to burn for energy. And if a "climate flip-flop" is coming, we'll be closer to that event, too.

I'm not completely pessimistic, but it's usually wiser to plan that way.
