military bases they are building there. First they are all in strategic places to protect the oil fields and the pipelines. They are all built to last, made of concrete and reinforced to withstand artillery fire, instead of the usual portable aluminum buildings. I don't think they are built to accommodate a new Iraqi army. We are there to stay.
I haven't gotten as far yet to find out who is going to get their hands on the oil fields, but I would bet it would be subsidiaries of various American oil companies hand in hand with the Saudis. It makes sense to me that they would want the new Iraqi government to incorporate Sharia into their system. That it is taking women back a hundred years doesn't matter to them.
The oil companies don't care one way or the other about the plight of women, because they operate on the theory of collateral damage and the end justifies the means. But a government run under Islamic law makes the populace as a whole much easier to control. This is such dirty business.
Now the Shrubster might have grudge to settle in this individually, but it's all about the oil business in the long run and the politics that needed to be played for them to get their paws on the world's oil.
