Just got a new voter ID card, is this normal?

Election 2004 was the first time I had ever voted. The address on my drivers license is my permanent address at my father's house out in the country, so that's where I was initially registered through the DMV. I got a voter ID that looked like a pink postcard. I actually live and receive my mail and filed my taxes in a suburb about 20 miles away.

Today I got what looked like a piece of bulk junk mail, but it was a new card that has me registered to vote here (which is more convenient and closer) and it's a smaller pink card that bifolds to about the size of a credit card. I didn't request this card, but I would assume it was done from my income tax returns. My drivers license still has my permanent address out there.

Is this a typical thing? Did I do something wrong by voting in the initial location? It was just a "here's your new card which replaces any old ones..." and it's got this school district and voting precinct listed on it. Will I have any trouble since my address on my ID is different than where I'm now registered?

1. Will you have problems?

Definitely yes. All ID has to match. You'll probably be told you can't vote.

Look online and see if your election commission has a way to correct this. If not, you'll have to pay a visit if you want to vote at all, never mind having it count.

10. I wasn't asked for any ID when I went to vote, only for the card.

I would call up the voting place to make sure everything is o'key, because they don't usually send anyone cards unless you ask for them. At least I never got any cards I didn't ask for.

5. Initially, in the hale and hearty days of the Clinton administration...

when I didn't care about politics because the worst thing facing the nation was whether the President got a little trim from an intern, I was travelling around the country working in theatre.

Now that the economy sucks and many places I used to work closed and severely cut the people they could hire, I have a "normal" job. My parents' address was my permanent address for banking reasons since I usually didn't stay in the same place in the country for more than 6 months. It's been my permanent address since high school.

Now I have a "normal" job, and really can't live there as it's not local to major roads I have to take to get to my job which is across the border in another state.

The other main reason is that my car insurance would jump about $100. Yes I feel guilty and am going to hell. I suppose I should suck it up and change my license, which expires in 2006 anyway.

11. Lot's of people don't live year round at their permanent address.

My husband and I always used my step daughter's address because we moved around different states doing seasonal work for the Forest Service. It didn't make sense to change everything for a few months every time we moved.

4. Here in FL in 2004, a lot of Democrats were sent voter reg cards,

identical to their existing one. My niece had just moved and went back to old apartment to see if she had mail (saw her old roommate to get her mail). If the old roommate were not there, the Repug SOE people would have been able to say "Democrats registered to invalid addresses." Then deny her the vote when she turned up because she had given a false address.

8. We get them all the time - but we're in aTn unusually rapid growing area.

We get both sets of 2 inch thick phone books twice a year.

We also get a bunch of cards from people we never heard of, too.

Seems like a good way to check on improper registrations.

In spite of the fact that the repuke voter registration outfit that was hired during the last election ONLY THREW OUT ALL THE DEMOCRATIC REGISTRATIONS - something like over 20,000.

Needless to say, the repukes "won" in a squeaker in NV.

9. there are primary elections coming up in september

in many locations, and if you are a registered party member, you will receive a new one for each election.
