ARMY PLANNING FOR 4 MORE YEARS IN IRAQ
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 03:06 PM by Bluebear
The Army is planning for the possibility of keeping the current number of soldiers in Iraq — well over 100,000 — for four more years, the Army's top general said Saturday.

In an Associated Press interview, Gen. Peter Schoomaker said the Army is prepared for the "worse case" in terms of the required level of troops in Iraq. He said the number could be adjusted lower if called for by slowing the force rotation or by shortening tours for soldiers.

Schoomaker said commanders in Iraq and others who are in the chain of command will decide how many troops will be needed next year and beyond. His responsibility is to provide them, trained and equipped.

About 138,000 U.S. troops, including about 25,000 Marines, are now in Iraq.

"We are now into '07-'09 in our planning," Schoomaker said, having completed work on the set of combat and support units that will be rotated into Iraq over the coming year for 12-month tours of duty.

2. Four more years. At how many billion a year? And what about the
'Coalition of the Willing' that's disintegrated and mostly come to their senses? Does President AWOL think he's going to be getting any help from anywhere else? Any help in paying for this obscenity of a slaughter of innocent civilians? Is he going to start drafting the kids of his constituency so that he has enough cannon fodder to throw at the insurgency? And what about Iran? Does he think that he can handle a war with Iran when Afganistan is heating up and Iraq is in chaos? And does he not understand he'll just fan the flames of the insurgency if he goes in and attacks another country?

This guy is the fucking biggest moran that ever waster oxygen on this planet.

3. That's because they only plan for the next four years.
If they did planning for ten years, they would be planning to be in Iraq for the next ten years, and so on.

Why else are they building those bases? We're never going to leave there as long as there is oil to get. I still think in time for the 2006 midterms (the spring) there will be some huge fake ass pullout and people will believe it and the media and all that but in reality we'll be there for years unless we get a new administration and the first thing they'll do is pull all of the troops out and close all the bases and destroy them.

Oh angel you are so right. And what do you want to bet that 98% of Americans know NOTHING about those bases.

8. That's so they can support air strikes on Iraq
Of course, Iran can strike back by getting their allies the Shiites of Iraq to march against us and demand we leave Iraq.

They will downsize the troops in 2006 just before the elections.
